Riots, Coronavirus, Unemployment, Tesla Model 3
Listen all these things are terrible, but I need a car whether there’s corona/ riots or not. The world keeps on moving and as a minority I hope that through the protests we’ll be able to have a more thorough discussion and changes on police brutality.
I don’t own one, but my ex boyfriend did. The one thing I will say is, it is difficult to charge if you don’t have easy access to a supercharger. I had a one car garage in the apartment I was paying for and he stayed in for free - I didn’t want to spend $1k for an electrician to upgrade the charging outlet, so he ended up having to take the garage every night. If you go anywhere else to charge besides the supercharger, you’ll waste a whole afternoon just waiting for it to charge, plus you’ll need transportation back from the charging station while you wait. If you live near a supercharger or can upgrade your home outlet to the higher charging speed then do it! Otherwise, a hybrid will be 1000x more convenient.
Also, just my personal opinion as someone who does not own one and sees cars as something that gets me from point A to point B, it is very much a toy and never really a necessity.
It is better for the environment, but it does still use electricity to charge, so it’s not completely waste free.
It has lots of cool features like the fireplace and games on the screen, but nobody needs that in a car. The dog mode option is cool too.
Autopilot is nice but also not very safe - it’s too easy to fall asleep while driving. However, it’s very futuristic and much better than any adaptive cruise control option out there.
The pleather seats get dirty easily. I remember going somewhere with sunscreen on and it somehow rubbed onto his seats and I spent around 30 minutes getting it out.
The full sunroof makes it really hot in the summer, since you’re really sitting in a metal box, so then AC has to be turned full blast, which lowers your mileage. Any chance of hail means it needs to be parked in a covered spot.
There’s those 6 cameras that can record anyone doing things to your car. To have that feature turned on at all times, it sucks battery power, and more often than not, people are mostly just walking by and bumps it on accident.
Then there’s the emotional connection to it. I get it, everyone has hobbies and you spend your money that you earned however you want, but I honestly think it’s too gimmicky for the price at this time. I equate it to how I feel about Samsung phones. Awesome inventive features, but the quality and dependability isn’t all there yet.
Tesla’s are greatest cars ever. You’ll never go back to gas engine cars once you go with a Tesla. Customer service is something to be desired these days but they are working on getting better. Back in day customer service was amazing but as they sold more cars they could not keep up with demand and got unresponsive and overwhelmed but they are trying to get better. Elon is a kook but the cars are great. The 3 is a great great car.

Get it. You won’t regret!
Terrible production quality. Nifty features, but I wouldn't trust my life to one.
Following. I test drove one recently and would really like one but it's hard to justify the cost since I don't drive anywhere anymore ☹️
I bought one back in February and it’s the greatest vehicle I could ever imagine owning. I feel like I can’t really call it a car though - it’s more a computer or giant robot than anything lol.
But anyways, I think the quality is exceptional for the price point, and unlike some comments above I think it’s huge on safety. It has 9 (i think) cameras around the whole vehicle and it’s very quick to alert if you’re ever departing a lane, could interfere with someone in your blind spot, or you’re coming up quick on a slow car or object.
I have autopilot instead of full self-driving, and it’s enough for me as I don’t live in a city where parallel parking is huge. I mostly use it on the highway, and sometimes on streets that go 35-40 mph if I’m not hitting red lights. The cruise control & autopilot both have a “creep” feature that allows you from riding up on someone. Also, the “falling asleep at the wheel” critics just usually seem to be people not wanting to accept what a Tesla is - you have to have your hands on the wheel & at times it makes you slightly move it back & forth, so sleeping isn’t really that simple.
I live in an apartment with an underground garage with an outlet near my spot. It’s only a 110, so the charge is really slow, but as long as you just plug it in when you’re home it’s no issue. I had it during a lot of busy season as well, where i wasn’t home much, and didn’t have a scare with the battery life.
Plus there is the obvious perk of never having to pay for gas or an oil change - just really wiper fluid, wipers, brake fluid, or new tires. Once you pay off the car, it’s much cheaper than any other vehicle.
Also, there is a “Sentry Mode” that can snap pictures of people when they come too close to your locked car, and it’ll send the photos to your phone if you have it hooked up via the app. Again I just think the car is incredibly safe. I love it so much my parents are now venturing into buying their own Teslas.
You can always message me if you have any other Qs - I say do it!
