I’d suggest they try first ChatGPT in the future, but otherwise, I don’t mind helping people.
I'll just say I've helped tons of people over the years and it was annoying at points but I really made a name for myself in doing so and was offered increasing better roles largely due to it. So if it's something that could be a possibility to you don't shy away from being the subject matter expert.
100%. Being recognized as a problem solver and someone who is willing to help is a good thing. I tell my team that often.
If they kept on asking the same questions I’d just create an SOP for them.
Yeah, this is beyond your role. You're teaching them to audit not how to use excel that's another issue
Depending on their level relative to yours, you could try asking to explain what they’ve tried already. With any luck they’ll get the hint that they should make an effort before asking you.
I wouldn’t send them anything - would it not be part of quals for the role to know excel or FIFO?
(Not first in first out, but rather, figure it the F out)
yeah, I think there is a way to express this without seriously offending them. You can show them resources you have learned before and ask them if they'll please try and not interrupt you unless they ABSOLUTELY can't figure something out (or leave that last part out if you don't think that you're the person they should be asking for help)
That's in my opinion pretty nice. Honestly they should know how to use excel or at least know how to figure it out. There is a ton of how to info, they don't have an excuse.
No not all. I'm not of the technology generation. Excel, Powerpoint were not invented yet. I've asked co-workers for some basics then took Excel online classes on LinkedIn. There are many trainings available on YouTube, Google etc. Be patient in suggesting independent learning :)
OP I honestly don't think that is rude at all and had a coworker that did that to me once years ago and I respected it. I honestly was just being lazy and didn't want to try and learn it on my own and she got sick of teaching me which I cannot blame her for.
