In a few months, you won't regret having spent more time with your fur baby instead of working to the bone. Hugs.
Also, my duck just died and trying to pretend to smile while people made duck l'orange jokes because they don't realize how soul crushing it is to lose a duck SUCKED. Ducks imprint on you.
100% ducks are awesome.
Thanks everyone. I’ve heard from the vet. They think it’s possibly kidney disease. To understand my anxiety over this, my dog has had a lifetime obsession with eating socks. He’s had three surgeries to remove them from his system, the last two in Feb and Sept. I’ve been very diligent recently to keep my socks locked away, but I panicked because the symptoms are similar. Kidney disease isn’t the best news, but it’s a much more viable outcome than another surgery, which I just cannot manage again. He’s on IV to rehydrate and staying at the vet overnight.
I am going through the same thing. I just learned my 14 year old dog (who has been with me since he was a puppy) has kidney failure. He was hospitalized for 2 days and had fluid therapy. He is still on fluid therapy now, as well as other medications. I have to administer an IV every 24 hours, which is incredibly hard to do because he hates it so much.
I started my current job 6 months ago and was nervous about taking a few days off to care for my furbaby, but realized that nothing is more important to me than him. I knew I’d deeply regret not spending as much time with him as possible, so I decided that for the time being that I’d put him first. After taking a few days off to ensure his appetite somewhat returned, I went back to work. But now, I set a strict cut off time at work so I can spend more time with my baby after work.
I’m very sorry to hear you are going through this. Please take care during this very difficult time.
Can you work from home while your dog is sick so you have more time with him? I’m so sorry, hugs to your fur baby
Oh poor baby I’m so sorry 😢😢
Thinking of you. I dealt with this all year and just lost my dog a few days before Thanksgiving. It definitely hurt my billables, but I also became very efficient and able to get work in just about anywhere.
Sending my warmest wishes to you and your pup! Dogs are too good for us.
I am so so sorry to hear this. Just hang in there. You will be fine and more importantly, your dog will be fine - he knows you’re there for him. Re. billable work, cant you speak to your firm?
I am so sorry
Thinking of you, dogs are too good for us. Sounds like he’s been lucky to have you.
I’m very sorry to hear this and hope you’re able to manage the end of the year so you can be with him as much as possible. Some people don’t understand the bond, but many do, as you can see from the responses here. I hope you get good news and quality time.
Update: He did not get better the way he needed. I just got back to work from putting him to rest. I’m not ready to go back to my house yet. I had a great vet who cried with me and let me stay with him as long as I needed. I am very sad but also very much at peace.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure you gave him the best life he could have had. As the Oatmeal said about dogs “Maybe that’s why we love them, because their lives aren’t lengthy, logical or deliberate, but an explosive paradox composed of fur, teeth and enthusiasm.”
Life stuff has to come first sometimes. Spend time with your dog, you won’t get it back!
