My husband is considering taking a job out of London (currently live in NYC). I’m very nervous bc I’m not sure how hard it will be for me to find a job. I graduated ug in 2014, have about 2 years with Deloitte, and spent a few years prior doing employee benefits consulting(which is mostly irrelevant in the UK 😂). My mother is French and I technically am eligible for a French passport so not sure if that will help? Any one have any ideas/tips/experiences as an American landing a job in London?

Still would try to get the French passport as it will open so many doors if you try to travel in Europe. Also would check about the UK employment visa rules for us applicants vs EU applicants to see if they favor one or the other

Yes, London is a bit dicey at the moment. A friend was laid off from Goldman, and she ended up having to move to Germany. She has an MBA from Duke.

Have you any desire to go back to school? If I was in your position (and I've been trying to push my partner to look abroad...) I'd probably try to get into LSE. If it ends up long term you have an easier in to jobs. If not, you went to LSE and that's cool.

I have thought about going to LSE behavioral economics

Does your husband’s new job pay enough to support both of you? London is expensive, more than NYC in some ways and the salaries are lower. Look up American companies with jobs in UK to see whats available. The experience to live in UK will be nice, post Covid you can pay $75 to fly across Europe,
It’s so cheap to get to places and very enriching.

Yes he makes enough that I don’t have to work but I like to maintain my independence especially since I’m far from family.

Yea that’s why I’m somewhat ok with the move..the cheap flights and train tickets!
