i feel like accounting is where dreams go to die idk. with that being said, i don’t know any other accountant that is happy with their job

like

you are definitely in the minority lol but i’m glad you’re happy! hopefully this field doesn’t suck you dry of that nor your passion :)

I’m the finance director at a nonprofit - I’m happy with my job (maybe not every day but most of them).
Set boundaries in what you are willing to do and when you are available to do it. For example, I told the CEO that I needed a day blocked out on my calendar to close the month. I am willing to work hard and late BUT not if the meetings that keep getting booked during close could wait a flipping day.
If you have direct reports, give them clear deadlines they are responsible to meet and for which they will be evaluated upon. AP has until the 5th to close, etc. so that you can complete your work in an organized fashion. If that doesn’t happen or can’t, communicate exactly why you can’t or the impact on why something is going to change.
Decide on the problems that are within your sphere of influence to improve. Pick one or two and work on those. Let the rest go.
The ones that you can’t change but impact your work; advocate to the person who can fix them how solving that problem will help them. Then let that go, too, until the person asks again or shows movement towards working on it.
I have to remind myself of these often but it has greatly reduced carrying stress around. This work isn’t life or death; no reason to treat it like it is.

Thanks so much for your detailed response! I’ll be chatting with my boss after the audit cycle on my observations from this audit cycle since I just started not too long ago and hopefully there can be improvements going toward

No I wish I was. It’s just so disorganized sometimes and that is a source of stress

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!

Just graduated w a FT offer at a T2 (S&O, OW, LEK). However, full time start date has been pushed to next year. Is there any way to recruit for MBB in the next coming months? (Realise that hiring is low because of COVID)

Had two final rounds w MBB during UG recruiting and if I have to wait several months to start FT. Iwould rather start a career w MBB if at all possible.

Considering a Product Owner role. Any best practices of what questions to ask during an interview? First phase deals with a virtual Teams interview with the recruiter and her manager on Tuesday. Excited since this is a hop from a Product Analyst role and entails an offer of over $30,000 from what I'm getting now! This would be a permanent full-time compared to my current contractor role that ends in March.
