It’s possible she may be moving on to different position and wants to know if you are capable? Is this something she started asking recently or has she always been this way?
That makes sense if she’s new to the role. I think it’s up to you how much you feel you need to manage your relationship with her. You shouldn’t have to give her this kind of advice, but she also has input into your career advancement.
I would tell her I don’t feel comfortable giving advice when you don’t have a full view of the situation and that she should ask HR or someone above. This is above your pay grade - you don’t need the stress or the fallout if you give advice that doesn’t work out.
Maybe I’m missing something; when reading this it sounds like someone who respects your experience and is asking how you prefer to be managed - for example, I have team members who want me to talk to difficult clients and I have those more seasoned that don’t need that kind of support. One kind would feel like I’m being a bad boss by ignoring their need and the other would feel like I was a micromanager for swooping in - asking for a preferred response is being respectful of those different capabilities.
Not sure if this is the same situation, but sometimes I ask this of my team when they are not delivering or when they assume I will just jump in and fix whatever problems need to get fixed rather then them making suggestions or taking the initiative. Seeing a problem from all sides can help, and understanding what problems you are handing over to your boss to fix can put things into perspective.
I sdk her at some point if this was related to performance of me or any of my team. Which I know is not the case and she confirmed that we are performing more than expected. She has insecurities issues and seems to need validation over and over again... she has managed more Jr. Team members and I am newish in the team and come with double of experience, I truly believe she just does not know how to manage someone that is more senior...
