Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.

Any chance you can get in the deltaOne cabin using upgrade certificates?

If you can, just drive. A road trip where you know it’s safer for her. Then you just take a flight back. It’s an odd option but still an option. I know a friend who drove from LA to MA after he bought a new car this Christmas. Him & his wife, he was so happy about how they managed to rekindle love, etc. could be some bonding time with you & your mum

Oh fml, EY2 you right. I didn’t think about that aspect, my friend had friends & family to crash at plus he was “excited” to use Tesla’s camping mode. His review on getting action in a Tesla is 6/9 🔥

Private jet, even with middle seat empty you’re still a foot away from the next person

Ha, yea nothing really to do, just wash hands and keep the n95 on
Have travelled by air 3x in last few months for various personal reasons/matters to take care of. Can’t speak to NYC airports but for the most part, airports are about half as busy if not less than normal. Even if gate area is crowded, your mother should be able to find a less crowded area within a few gates and then arrive at gate area during boarding. I’d be more concerned with the long flight (> 6 hours). If you are able to splurge a little bit and buy your mother a first class ticket (try Alaska or JetBlue) then at least she can be in a more roomy seating arrangement instead of being stuck say in a row of 3 in Economy. I haven’t checked airfare recently but for a while first class seats on those 2 airlines were around $350 one-way, which is an awesome deal.
Sorry should have added that I flew AA, United, and Southwest and they all seemed to be taking strong measures through thorough aircraft cleaning between flights (definitely cleaner than pre-Covid times), handing out wipes, reminding ppl to wear masks throughout, and limiting onboard service to drinks only on request. I’d imagine that any airline these days are being rather diligent about cleanliness and safety measures.
Alaska for sure - it’s only 1 person per set of 2 seats in first class. They’re very strict about mask wearing and if you’re in first class you can be the last to board and first to get off.
Hands down Delta. They are using fogging to clean after every single flight. Middle seats are not assigned, mask mandatory to fly, packed snacks, water and hand sanitizer on board. Their crew and attendants are tested weekly and have stringent protocols when they fly.
Thank you all, I booked delta finally after doing some more research. It is also more for my peace of mind..... delta is cleaner and following safety protocols better than other airlines. I have been down with covid and was out for 3 weeks earlier this year. I know flying definitely has some risks but I will be at peace knowing delta is taking more precautions than United and others.
Make sure you fly her business class on any of the airlines. Should be fine
Don’t have any upgrade certificates unfortunately
I heard Cali Hospitals are beyond struggling
In my experience, typical ICU occupancy is closer to 60%, perhaps 80% in rural hospitals in flu season. It is wildly misinformed and dangerous to suggest that the current occupancy (100-130% in many hospitals) is typical. It’s also seriously disrespectful to the nurses, doctors, and other staff who are having to exceed legal limits for patients they can care for, working 2-3x the normal number of shifts, and risking their lives

I have not flown at all since Covid, but my daughters frequently are flying. Delta seems to be hands down the best. My good friend is a flight attendant there and they are strictly following protocol, and middle seats are left open.
Thank you all! Will look into Alaska airlines and Delta. Definitely have higher trust in delta compared to AA and United
Dept of defense did a study on air travel, you have a 0.003% chance of getting anything via airborne particulars on a plane while wearing a mask. Just relax and take the flight, personally I never stopped flying and I would say 80% of the people Im close with didn’t stop either.
Just wear n95 mask and keep using the sanitizer. Have travelled 30k miles in last 2 months and safe
Yeah, absolutely, taking those precautions.
