Yeah nothing wrong with saying no. Just tell them you need to create some bandwidth for your personal health and well being and that there are others who can help with the work.

This - when you get handed new clients, tell them you have a bunch on your plate and you will realistically not get it done in the timeline they want. It’s on you to speak up.

Look at the big picture and the long run. You’re pace is unsustainable. Right now your sprinting on a treadmill and judging others for jogging. The only one winning is the firm. I don’t mean to sound rude but the others are right... you’ve done this to yourself. If others can get by pulling less weight then so can you. This workaholic BS is dangerous. I had a senior manager get hospitalized because of it. She’s still on leave. Critically re-examine your situation and make some changes. I wish you the best!

It’s magic when you tell them “yes of course I can do that for you. I have a lot on my plate but I can get to it in 3 weeks and have you something back [sometime after they promised it done].” You get credit for offering and don’t even have to do shit.

I hope atleast you get paid more and the management appreciates you. I dont work as much as you but definitely was discouraged when I learned that I got equal raise with someone who wasnt pulling as much weight

EY6, it’s definitely a start. I guess I’m just craving recognition. I need to find my niche of being seen as hard working and reliable but at the same time I recognize working both fall deadlines at 90 hours a week isn’t sustainable. And part of it is a I really do want that “team” with an “all in this together” mentality but I’m not finding it.

While they leave at 5 almost every day. Some study for their CPA every day. And I am getting handed new clients! I haven’t had a day off in 3 weeks. I am a hard worker but I am getting frustrated and burnt out. Is it acceptable to point this out to a manager or higher and ask for sone equity?

When they know you’re good they will milk every last bit of it til you leave and that’s the sad truth. No one cares that you care, they care that you’re a hard worker and will do more so they’ll give you more. Work smarter not harder and say no when your plate is full, you’ve done enough to prove you’re valuable.

If anyone is thinking about going on flex time, I would highly recommend it. It might not work for everyone, but my experience has been a positive one. I took a 20% pay cut along with 20% reduced hours. I am able to support my family with that income and my firm respects my limited hours, but I still need to plan to make sure I can complete tasks in my reduced hours too. Anyways, if you like what you do, but don’t like the long hours and can take a pay cut, I would do it.

Dyslexia! After having our kindergartener son tested (privately) related to ADHD, we were told he may have dyslexia too (which would explain why he struggles so much with phonics but is amazing at sight words). He has a very high IQ. As a voracious reader, I am finding myself unexpectedly distraught that something that I have loved so much will be such a struggle for him, and worrying that it will affect his motivation and may steer him away from things he may otherwise love.
