That sucks buddy. And I'm sure it stings. Maybe you should go up and talk about wanting a promotion. Sometimes things and people just slip minds, and maybe they weren't intentionally pushing you out of the equation like you think . It's worth a shot.
If you're worried about not being front of mind when conversations about promotion are happening - you can change that. Often Managers are looking for proactive behaviours from employees.
Have a conversation with your Manager or one of these seniors and say that you'd like to discuss opportunities for your development and growth within the business. Express explicitly that you feel ready for a promotion - ask if there's any skills they think you should work on to be considered ready for the next step and seek opportunities to work on projects or contribute to work that shows you have the necessary skills.
Showing your motivation and having a proactive conversation might just make them see you in a different light.
They might be doing that on purpose so that you will speak up and show some ambition rather than passively waiting for good things to happen. Or they may be oblivious.
Tell them that the walls are thin, that you overheard their discussion, that you believe that you are ready for promotion and that you want it. And remind them that the walls are thin.
I agree they probably didn’t do it on purpose, but the second part is good. If someone told me they heard that an opportunity for promotion may be coming and they are very interested and would like to discuss the role and position themself to be a good fit, i would respond positively and would keep them in mind when making the decision
Promotions take more than hard work. You have to be a team leader with personality. The new hires should be looking up to you as their senior. If you've been doing everything right, then start looking for other job opportunities.
