Suicidal ideation is not healthy and should be taken seriously. With that said, I think it’s more common than most would think. I often have ideations when I’m extremely stressed out and depressed. I use it as a sign to reassess my life. So if I’m driving to work and feel a strong urge to crash into a tree, that’s kind of a wake up call for me that something has to change ASAP (speaking from actual experience here).
Once while on the Golden Gate Bridge I had an urge to throw myself off it... the feeling was strange and powerful and it freaked me out... I didn’t seek help at that time, but have spoken to therapists since then
Interesting listen https://www.wbur.org/endlessthread/2018/06/29/the-call-of-the-void
that most people dealt with this at some point, if not regularly, throughout their lives
I think about it from time to time. I've not yet discussed with my therapist yet. I get scared at the thought of not living or being dead more. It's a weird thing.
It’s estimated 1.4M attempt suicide each year. And the number thinking about it is probably 20-40 times as many - so yes, it’s common. Our brains are like a highway system and the longer we think about something the bigger that road gets and we go down it more. You should definitely seek professional help, and for me, telling people you trust this truth helped a lot to fight these thoughts.
You can get better, it’s estimated that over 90% of people do better from therapy and/or medication. Hope you continue to fight these thoughts and find peace soon
Suicide ideation (both passive and active) is a side effect of CPTSD which I suffer from. So I definitely have it. Know you’re not alone.
Perhaps look into what could be the root cause in your situation.
This is not normal. You should get professional assistance to navigate your thoughts and get better.
I have gotten help for this and on the proper medication and it’s doing great for me.

I have struggled w depression for a long time but not sucicidal thoguhts. It may be more common in this bowl but in the general population it is not normal. Yes, its an issue many struggle w but definitely not the majority. I think its important you know it is not normal and doesn’t have to be your norm
