I don’t have any friends at either company so I was curious if anyone has experience and can shed some light on culture/ work life balance to help me make a decision? Thanks for the help guys!
I’m about to start an internship at IBM for UX Research. I’m super excited about it, and was wondering if anyone could tell me about the design culture there or how the company is for designers? So far online I’ve only heard about the company from consultants or software engineers. For more reference I’ll be working in Austin.

The supervisor getting annoyed is dumb. But this is not and never will be a 9-5 job. You will work late but should be the exception rather than the norm.
This is very cute.
Tell them you’re “continuing by working from WFH.”
Also, being paid what you’re worth, having nights and weekends, and respecting personal time is culture. Foosball and free snacks isn’t.
Does the “culture” include a proper lunch hour? No I didn’t think so 😆
In-house you can leave at 5 p.m.
At an agency, it’s 6 p.m. But then you can show up the next day at 10 a.m.

You can always not show up at all.
45 minutes that could’ve been spent on actual work so everyone could go home on time.
Absolutely not
Leave when you're done working. Sometimes it will be at 5, sometimes it won't. I always rephrase it a "relocating" rather than "going home" which helps optics-wise.
