Need help. I’ve been notified that layoffs may be required in the company this year. Execs are starting to look around and see where unneeded headcount and open bandwidth is.
Every member of my small team (5 designers) is valuable, but I’m not sure if I have the right tools or reports in place to prove it - so much of our work is around communication and strategy- not just tickets. Recommendations on how to proactively defend my team? Has anyone faced this kind of impending doom before?

How do you allocate your resources and scope projects? You probably already have this info. Pull your tracking of what projects they’re spending their time on. Example:
Designer1: 25% project a, 10% project B, 50% c, 15% d
Designer 2: 10% project d, 70% project e, and 20% f
Etc
Then also list their total hours per week - if you have timesheets this is easy, if not you may need them to provide that to you.

Create a mid-year status report. Highlight successes (to make sure they see your value) and challenges ahead (make sure they know you need the full team). Align the recap and your work with the company’s goals. You can find good ideas on ways to quantify when metrics aren’t obvious on several job sites such as the Muse.

Additional Posts in Senior Leaders and Executives Only

What’s the best way of encouraging young team members to actually disconnect during their time away? I have some individuals that will not take actual vacations, they say, “I’ll have my laptop and phone”. My response is “please leave your laptop at home and turn off teams and outlook phone notifications. If there is an emergency and we have a question only you can answer, we can call or text. we’ve got this.”

And then they teams checking in 2 days later 🤦🏼‍♀️

Hi all. I’m a ux designer at a small company and need to recruit a few people for usability testing. Our target demographic is people over the age of 35 who’ve been in leaderships positions. If you’re interested I’ll send the link- the test will take about 15-30 minutes and pays 20$. No human interaction required.

Our company is going through a major transformation and there is quite a bit of resistance due to uncertainty and lots of broken promises. Are there any books you would recommend on how to change corporate culture and help employees adapt to change?

Working my way up the corporate ladder. I have so many thoughts on leadership and want to initiate changes in the departments I work with. But at this level it's so difficult. Ppl are so resistant to change.

My key learning thus far in my career: Noone gives a shit about your ideas unless you're a head honcho. Real change is brought about from a position of authority.

Does anyone have recommendations on an approach to get frequent feedback on employee sentiment across your teams?

I lead a global team of ~70 and growing. Most of the team is deployed to major company initiatives and pressure is high. We do big annual employee surveys, but I'm looking for good ways to get more regular feedback at scale.

I took the role I am in about a year ago and it just has not been what was promised and a huge step back. I have found a good place and am content but not overly happy with my place in the company. A smaller competitor reached out for a vp position that is a huge step up responsibility wise. There would be a pay raise but not huge so money is not the motivator here. Is this crazy to seriously consider? I hate to burn bridges. I have been told I am on the partner fast track. Thoughts? Advice?

Hello! I’d like to share an experience and hopefully receive guidance.

I spent two years as an executive, and while I was providing what I believe was impactful work, and receiving praises across the board, I got fired from one day to the other without any explanation.

Prepping for a CRO interview with the CEO of a smaller tech company (approx 70 employees) experiencing explosive growth. They want someone to run sales, alliances, & marketing, with heavy influence around product development so not really a traditional CRO role. Working on prep and curious if anyone has any ideas around questions I should be prepared to answer? Questions I should ask? Seems like an interesting role that should be a good fit with my background. Other thoughts?

I’m currently considering an offer and am finding that all online compensation benchmarking is falling flat in terms of understanding how I should be looking at comp for this role. I’d value your advice on how to access cleaner comp data and/or how you might look at comp for this role: Chief People Officer for a $2.5BIL revenue ($150MIL net income) global organization. 50,000 employees. USA based. Looking for Total Comp and cash targets/benchmarks.
