You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
You committed to Company A. Technically, you should not have accepted if it is not what you wanted. This puts Company A in a precarious position.
What if you go to Company B and all of a sudden they go with someone else after you move there?
Go with Company B but maybe have more consideration the next time around.
@CW1 Then you are no better than those that shit upon you. Rise above. It is possible to succeed and maintain integrity.
Don’t tell either company anything. Doing so could potentially ruin things with either opportunity. Wait until you have a written offer from B to tell job A. No matter what at this point if you get B you’ll burn a bridge with A, so better to keep quiet until B is a for sure thing. If you tell A now and B falls through you look bad. Look out for yourself.
I feel like being open & honest with Company A is more important in this situation.
Life happens. Start at A, continue to interview with B, and if B comes through politely give notice at A and move on. I’d give you different advice if these were people you were dating, but this is a scenario in which you are exchanging your services and ideas for money while building a career in an at-will employment arrangement. (I assume. You’re not signing anything that would preclude you from leaving A to go to B, right?) Good luck and I hope it works out with B and that the reality is as good as the dream!
...at my dream company B across the coast. Do I need to tell B company's recruiter that I'm currently switching the job? If so, when should I tell recruiter the truth?
p.s. If I got an offer from B, I'll def accept it and relocate
Everything is relative. U r burning a bridge, for sure. But In my experience, that’s not that big a deal, for several reasons. First, the damage u r doing agency A is minimal. Second, if they r human, some part of them will understand the pull of ur dream job. And ultimately, if all works out well, u won’t ever need to cross that bridge again. It’s not super cool, but it’s understandable.
