Why would you ever decline an interview? Always take the practice, if anything
Say you reach out to BCG...what’s the worst they could say...no? Though they might say yes. Either way, you’ll get closure. No harm in asking but have an honest and thoughtful reason for why you had declined.
And if you’d like to help your fellow fish, please name the company that withdrew the offer and how and time frame of offer withdrawal.
You failed the first step of that interview. Lesson learned and don't do it again. Consider that opportunity closed. Never turn down an interview before having an actual offer in hand.
So close KPMG... so close.
Say you had a personal consideration in your life (e.g., moving) that no longer holds and see what happens.
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take - Michael Scott
Ugh. Bad move.
But no harm in reaching out. Say you were pursuing something and didn’t want to waste recruiters time, but now have prioritized BCG because of A, B, C.
We still need lots of people, so might actually get a second chance to interview
Knowing our recruiting process, I think there’s a good chance we’d interview you. We don’t tend to take these things personally.
As long as you were professional about it when you declined we would probably give you another interview.
You could tell BCG that your circumstances changed and you are interested. This happens sometimes, you can explain in the interview that your area of interest has not changed but you are reconsidering how you go about it. Good luck!
The worst that can happen is for them to say no. I know a lot of people who didn’t make it in their first go, but did in their second. Yours is a slightly different situation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they give you the interview
Should I reach out to BCG recruiter and see if they’re still willing to interview me? Or is it too late?
I turned die an interview with svp of a company in industry only because I had accepted an offer and the consulting company I was interested in. I feel it’s a bit Kansas e to call Bcg back. Take it as a valuable lesson and move on
Similar boat. I wanted to get our EY so badly that I accepted an industry offer instead of going through BCG’s interview process. Regret it at times, but I don’t think being at BCG would have made me happier especially if I want to reach the CxO level. Things happen for a reason, right?
Agree with BCG1 - never hurts to ask, but be realistic they may not be super excited and may close the door immediately.
(L/T, want to do something specific in industry, which is why I was so keen on the industry job, but want to make sure I continue growing in consulting for the time being.)
BCG3 makes an important point about their culture. Go for it, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Persevere, having learned an important lesson
I second the others here: email the recruiter, good chance you’ll get an interview.
