nothing hurts more than getting let go from a job 2 months in.. When you think you are progressing and learning, but in all actuality you are deemed as not a good fit and failing to meet expectations.

@OP Same happened to me earlier in my career. Let me tell you firsthand, you’re better off! Seems like it was a toxic environment and you didn’t have a chance to succeed. Their loss! Keep your chin up and get back out there.

Try to get more details as to why you were let go—concrete examples. I say this because it’s also possible they used it as an excuse to bring in their “favorite” candidate... Ask a friend how quickly they backfill. They could use team fit to bring on someone’s BFF etc.

That said, also entertain the idea that it was a performance issue. Did you ever receive negative feedback? Constructively use this to enhance your skills in the areas—everyone has weak areas to improve.

Recommend you pound the pavement hard as hiring tends to freeze in early November.

It happened to me last week. Keep your chin up + hustle. It may not look like it, but it’s a blessing

To be honest, this was your first full time job. I find it ridiculous that they did that to you. You are not expected to know things and have experience. It’s such a learning curve... I knew nothing when I started my first full time job. Don’t be discouraged, this was clearly bad management. I would say you were laid off due to team reorganization. Please don’t take this personally, you have so much to learn and you can do this!

like

Im sorry to hear that. Were you on a perm contract or freelance? Normally you will expect them to give you a 3 month review. It seems unfair to me that they let you go after 2 months. You are still adapting and getting used to the team, account and team etc. On the happier side, this time of year is good for the job search, I’m sure you will find something soon.

like

Feel for you - happened to me 6 weeks into my new full-time after they paid for me to move across the country - for no good reason.

like

OP, you were doing the right thing by initiating meetings with your supervisor to elicit feedback. That your supervisor didn't give you constructive feedback this early in your career does not reflect well on them.

Still, you said that they were telling you what others were supposedly saying about you. That's a very passive management style, and one that requires you to read between the lines and intuitively know what changes to make. That might work out with someone more experienced, but with someone in your shoes, directness may have been more useful.

Rehashing negative crap isn't easy, but if you'd like to share some of what those "others" were supposedly saying, we might be able to translate for you.

@creative director 2 - I would arrive on time and be the absolute last to leave... every day. I wanted to learn and grow. I was the main aggressor for my own success. unfortunately, that wasn't enough.. I have been applying like crazy since so please send good vibes. thanks for the input everyone

I'm not entirely sure.. I would try to reach out to my supervisor to communicate and encourage feedback, but that energy was not reciprocated... I think it may have been a team thing more than a client.. I was still trying to learn the ropes

like

Yes “restructuring” and said unfortunately that given you were the newest addition to the team. Your role was eliminated.

Sounds like a blessing in disguise- but sorry that happened to you. There’s usually a nugget of truth somewhere. Don’t beat yourself up but take it as a learning experience. You’re better off elsewhere!

Get a lawyer. Explain your side of the story and see if there isn’t a way to at least get the agency to give you lots more severance for whatever bs they let you go for.

So sorry this happened to you - in the long run, it will be for the best as this team sounds toxic and you deserve better. I’m three months in at my job and at two months, I was just beginning to get a clue what I was doing and starting to grasp. I made tons of mistakes and I can’t imagine a team that would let you go when you are learning like that. You deserve better and will find it. Honestly, I would include it on your resume because you can discuss how you tried to get feedback and initiated those conversations, and this will be a learning experience. I will defer to someone with more experience in this, though. Again, I’m sorry that your team was so harsh ❤️

Yo, if it’s bizz management it’s one of two things, straight up has to downsize and you were low man on the totem pole or you are literally an irresponsible kid. No one is account gets dropped after two months unless they can’t show up and have a drug problem or just can’t read.

Dear OP, look at all of this support, encouragement and love!! 🖤

mostly asking too many questions about processes that have been covered once before or not enough of the right questions.. I know I'm a new to the corporate world, but seems a little trivial especially since I was told that I would undergo extensive training while on the job.. to be clear "the extensive training" never happened. It was more of, this is what you have to do and that is it..

BBDO - well it was compounded by a relationship break up and a move across the country. So it was bad. A lot better now. But the best thing you can do is realize that it happens to everyone and that the place was toxic and not right for you in the long-run. Also get back on the horse as soon as possible - Paladin, Creative Circle, Aquent and the like have a lot of freelance and contract work (sometimes full-time). And you can get back into the groove. Before you know it, Stella will have her groove back.

like

If you were there less than 3 months and not freelance, I wouldn’t even list them on my resume and also, you can’t use them for a reference.

I've seen it before. my assistant was excellent but couldn't make it work in the dept and ultimately had to leave. sometimes it really is them not you. greatest lesson of my career was seeing someone perform the job really well and get no where.

I have one pro bono case that I kept when I left my firm to go in house. It’s a matter completely unrelated to my company and I have malpractice insurance through the nonprofit organization associated with the case. No one has asked me specifically about pro bono stuff at my company - if I know there’s no conflict of interest, is this something I should disclose? To whom should I disclose this?
