Update: just for anyone reading this thread in the future. My department heads were very supportive and extremely open to the idea of me going to another office. There would have been a bigger conversation if I was looking to go fully remote. But moving from the main Boston office to NYC didn’t seem to be an issue. Thanks for all the comments!
I’d say can’t hurt to ask. Or even bring up working remote for the year?
You just walk into an office and tell whoever’s there to look out the window and imagine all the opportunities. Then tell them you have, and it’s time for you to go after them. And you would like them to join you.
And make sure you pick a corner office.
Once we went into full work-from-home mode last year, around 30% of our team left the city and went back to their hometowns so that they’d be with family and save on rent, etc... They’re all still in the same time zone, and since we’re all remote, whether they’re a mile away or 500 miles away doesn’t really make a difference.
From the corporate perspective: you know your company better than I do, but I think it’s fine to ask – with the caveat that they might say no, or they might tell you to fully transfer and work for the other branch, or they might want to adjust your salary to reflect the cost of living in the new location. (RE: the cost of living thing, I would never do that to my team members, but I have absolutely heard of other companies doing it – if they’re paying you an NYC salary and you move to North Carolina, they know you can have the same quality of life for a much lower salary...)
Relocating to a city that has a Hill Holliday office will be an easier yes for them than otherwise. There is absolutely no harm in asking as long as you are okay with a “no”. This is not like demanding a raise or a private office. It won’t make you look like a diva.

You can ask, but with you being a junior, theyre in a pretty good position to dictate terms. They could ask you to take a pay cut (so you make the same as the other people in the small town branch office), or they could wait till you move to the smaller town, then just TELL you youre getting a pay cut, because where else are you gonna work in the small city?
No offense intended, just keep in mind as a junior youre pretty replaceable if you start asking for some special accommodations.
Good people in HH offices in both cities. When I did it the work product and quality of life were very different in the two offices. But that was a long time ago. Good luck.
You work for Hill. They don’t care about you. Good luck, kid.
