Comp is only one dimension, I would take a decrease in in salary if needed

0 if hate your life. 15 if unhappy. 25 if happy.

At 30 percent you’d be silly to not take the pay increase. Unless are not good with change and just super comfortable in your current role/company.
Consulting sucks in general. No one is that comfortable
Took a decrease of ~10% for more autonomy, better growth trajectory, less travel, better work/life balance. No amount of money was worth my health and missing my kids’ early childhood.
Mine is 20% at minimum since I’m perfectly happy in my current job. Might want more than that minimum though depending on what I learn during the interview process
Right — some places want to hire you because the house is on fire. That warrants a premium for me as well.
Better question would you rather get a 20% comp bump or keep your current comp but get a 20% reduction in hours? 🤔 (assuming that the 20% hour reduction was guaranteed somehow)
Funny how this answer differs between SA and SM
I took a pay cut to move away from EY
When I was desperate to leave a horrible role I tried to get a bump and was usually successful but smaller increases. I took a cut twice early in my career. The first was after being laid off and needing whatever I could find. The second was leaving a horrible work environment for something more stable. If I'm in a good spot it takes 15-20% for me to even consider it. The mental stress of learning a new role is taxing and it has to be worth it for the comp and career trajectory at this point in my life. I'm casually looking for a better opportunity but it's going to take 15% bump for me to pursue it.
20% if I have no “need” to look.
I took pay cut to move from toxic kpmg mgmt
You’re asking the wrong question.
By wrong question I meant to consider what qualitative benefits does a move offer. If it’s for more money in a stale company, or more money for a bad boss, no. In your own career path how does this next move benefit your career? Could even be a call to change your career. What is the culture? I had a great jump in salary to join as a Partner in a name firm. Hated it and went back to previous firm. My point was to look at the decision in context for you.
