OK fellow lawyers, how the hell do we actually do this job with ADHD? I am adult diagnosed. I thought I just had anxiety for the longest time, but once I got that properly under control with medication, all of the nasty ADHD symptoms came crawling in. I scraped by for many years, but I am now at a total dead end. Everyone thinks I am so fucking capable, yet I can’t get a single assignment in on time or without a procrastination spiral. I am to the point where I am totally burned out. xoxo😂

I came here to ask this same question. Ive seen so many posts saying litigation is great for people with ADHD but my biggest struggle is handling so many things at once under time pressure.
My supervising attorney keeps noting that I need to get faster churning things out but it takes me forever to just figure out what I’m doing before writing. I’m burnt out from feeling so inept. I feel like I’d thrive in a research position or maybe appellate brief drafting. I love cases with complex technical legal issues but struggle with cases with fact-intensive claims.

If you’re not medicated you need to be. And if you are, it sounds like you need to up your dosage or try a new ADHD med.

Hey! I'm just about to start doing some freelance work for a NYC based boutique design studio, and I need to give a hiring manager my hourly rate to give his customers. I am new to UI/UX design. I have experience in graphic design, but I just completed a certificate in UI/UX design so other than school projects I don't have an extensive amount of experience. What would you suggest I should charge? I am more interested in gaining experience than needing the money, but want to be payed reasonably.

I’m in litigation and it’s a constant struggle to make sure I have accurate and up to date ‘bring ups’ and that I float anf rename all my emails and get all my time in and update my partner etc. like I can maybe get 1 or 2 but I’m never on top of everything and it’s so hard!

I saw a new PCP in a new city and finally talked about how I believe I may have ADHD (I’m 40), particularly based on things I’ve read here. He suggested I talk to a psychologist first, but I’m having the hardest time getting an appt with anyone in the area. Has anyone used Teladoc and have any recs? Alternatively, does anyone have recs of anyone I can to talk to so I can be tested?

What are your strategies for completing work efficiently? How do you figure out how long projects should take? A consistent piece of feedback on my yearly reviews has been that I over-bill & spend too much time on assignments. It’s something I actively work on, but I still have no concrete sense of how long I should spend on basic tasks (e.g., drafting a motion to dismiss). My firm is right to expect that I manage my time better as a mid-level associate. WFH has made my time management worse.

Can anyone offer advice for helping with adderall side effects? I was diagnosed a few months ago and I am new to medication. I have been taking 20 mg xr in the morning but have a terrible crash around 2/3pm each day where I just get very very tired. Doctor recommended 10mg ir mid day to combat but I still experience pretty severe fatigue as a side effect. Just wondering if anyone has found any natural strategies to cope or mitigate. Thanks!

My manager scheduled a feedback conversation and I know it's bc I've made some noticeable mistakes lately due to moving too fast, not being able to focus, racing thoughts, etc. I'm seeing a therapist about whether I have ADHD and if so, what tx looks like; we started the intake process which will be continued in my 2nd appointment, which is after the feedback convo meeting. Is it worth telling my mgr something eg I recognize the careless mistakes and I'm in the process of seeing tx to help?

One of my frustrations with myself (writing it out here so I can work on it) is that I will print out something that I need, such as a traffic collision report. I will read it without actually reading it. This results in spending time without actually retaining info. Does this happen to anyone else? I’ve found that I can actually focus when I truly force myself, but often this happens after I’ve discovered an error or an important piece of information that I should have noticed earlier.

After 4 years I want to leave law because of my adhd! I have been to 4 different firms and at each place I feel like I have been “found out”. At every place at least one attorney catches me about my attention to detail. I am so down on myself now. I can’t bring myself to care about small details that I know don’t actually matter. Sitting at a desk all day in word documents is the ultimate form of torture to me. My strengths are talking to people. I am super outgoing. Looking for a new career
