One of the partners in my big 4 strategy firm (e.g. Strategy&) left to start a competing practice at MBB. I have an offer to join them but if I do my current practice/team will be very upset and burn all bridges. Should I do it? I feel guilty leaving but also don’t want to miss out on this opportunity if it’s my only chance to break into MBB.

What bridge? This is to MBB.

likefunny

Do you like that partner, easy yes. Are they paying you more, easy yes.

Do you dislike the partner and the comp is the same, regular yes.

No bridges will be burned beyond repair. Maybe you’ll have a harder time to go back to that same B4 if you want, but after MBB you’ll likely pivot to greener pastures

like

Lol, is it S& or not?

It won't burn bridges. There's plenty of hopping around in this industry. You may even come back one day.

There are other factors to consider, but "burning bridges" really shouldn't be one of them.

like

This makes a lot of sense! Thank you!

The one and only reason to say no here is if you’re going to make partner at your Big 4 firm this year.

Other than that, if you like the work and like the partner, go.

like

Yes

You are burning a bridge with your new MBB partner connection by not taking the offer being waved in your face

likefunny

If it’s the same kinda work and clients, would staying at S& over MBB be “detrimental” to your exit opps ? Tier 2 are still very fine firms.

Can he or she bring me too?🥲

You’ll be surprised how little people care when you leave. Especially if you go to MBB

Has anyone left healthcare and is now really happy? I’m an MSN, RN with 12 years hospital experience. I’m burned out and tired of making crap pay. I have an opportunity outside of healthcare that would pay more and challenge me in new ways that I haven’t experienced before. It’s a total shift that would really heal my work-life balance, job satisfaction and budget. My only fear is that I would not be using the license and degree that I worked so hard for. I would appreciate any input!!!!

When I was managing consulting projects, I told my teams that they should feel free to communicate with me if they had any issues or concerns. However, I also wanted their ideas about what they would do to solve the issue they are raising.

Situations can get "extreme," or small issues may arise when you are in the heat of the moment trying to accomplish your goals. That's normal.

But to change the pattern and prevent Burnout, you need to communicate with an action.
