Yes. All the time and it's tiring. I'm on the fence with staying to teach them something or leaving and mind my own business. Yes, for them it's a man's world but not on my terms.
Yes I work in automotive field and happens quite often. We are 5 women in a 50+ team. Non inclusive language is common, I generally do not correct anyone but when I speak I use gender neutral forms like they/them hoping they would get a hint!
Yeah the inherent bias present in these things grosses me out tbh
I'm with you on that. I try my best to model by using inclusive and gender neutral speech but it feels like the message just doesn't come across. They don't seem like they're willing to learn at all. Keep taking space where you are. You've got this!
That's sad. We're in 2022 and there are people, mostly men, that are dismissive when it comes to gender equality. Thank you for doing your best in your own ways.
Thank you 🙏🏻 I appreciate that people acknowledge I’m flying the flag for such an under represented minority in our company. Honestly I’m considering moving on as I’ve learnt it’s impossible to change their culture there. I’ve spoken up so many times and I hope no other woman has to go through the same as I did I hope. My team/manager otherwise are very inclusive - which is why I stayed as long as I did in this company. But the overall higher depts and senior mgmt I would say otherwise for the inclusion. Which kind of dominate our team in terms of processes implemented and hiring etc.
I am glad our company is gender sensitive. I never felt excluded from the circle. Being the only woman in the team, I always felt protected and loved by all my male teammate They are even friends with my husband.
Love this! I’m so delighted your team is so supportive of you. Thankfully My specific team I work on all get along well with me and thankfully my boss is very supportive of me too. It’s just such a shame this higher mgmt of engineering teams and the ceo have control over our team. They make the big decisions for all our teams and they’re not very inclusive either. Which makes their presence difficult to avoid

Ouch. Keep speaking up! And maybe speak with HR about the need to hire more women.
We don’t even have a dedicated hr. Some woman across the country is doubling up with HR and 2 other roles. But we have no dedicated HR. That bothers me too
Yup, I gave up trying to change the culture after about 5-6 years of dealing with it. I think it's what made me be able to climb up the corporate ladder if I'm being honest
I’m 5 years into this role too. Preparing to make my next move I think looking at applying other places. I’ve provided them so many chances to change my mind otherwise. But if anything the cons outweigh the pros of staying to make it all work
They were also talking very vulgar about one of the company owners (female) while she wasn’t on the call. One of the managers saying in a flirty tone would she be at the next company event out (for paintball team building event) and ceo said “we’re still talking about paintballing right?” Everyone on the phone laughing in. All male. I have a lot of respect for this colleague and for her to be talked about like that without her there to defend herself I found very offensive. Maybe I’m overly sensitive some may think, but I believe every employee should be treated with same respect as anyone else. For a professional company call there was no manners for this woman they spoke of without her presence. Felt so wrong!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this was disgusting! I thought it was banter taken way too far. So unprofessionally gross!
