I have recently cleared the loop at Google for a GCP Cloud Security Consultant role in India.
YoE - 10. Not sure about the job level yet. The recruiter has just sent me an "Offer review packet" spreadsheet to fill with salary expectations.
My two best current offers are:
- Prod sec engineering lead at an Eyecare giant - 57 LPA + 3.5 L joining bonus
- Lead sec engineer at a series D profitable HR tech startup - 60 LPA + 40 L ESOP vested over 4 years
How much should I ask for at Google ?

Can’t imagine a situation in which this would happen at our firm (V25). OP what’s the situation you are thinking about?
If you have such a strong reputation and relationship with clients that we think bringing you on would significantly grow some aspect of our practice, then perhaps. Basically a situation where your current firm SHOULD already have made you partner but hasn’t for whatever reason.
Would be interested in hearing other partners’ views as to their firms’ views as well.
Out of curiosity what year are you and what kind of firm do you currently work for?
Curious to this answer as well! I currently work for a mid-sized regional firm and associates aren’t really expected to have their own business until their 4th or 5th year, but I wonder how that would look in a transition.
There are two ways in at that level (in my opinion): you have an expertise the firm lacks and is sorely needed, or you are expected to be a business generator very quickly due to some strong indications (conflicts kept you from bringing in work at prior firm, a general counsel is promising you work if you go somewhere else, etc). But most firms don’t want senior associates or junior partners because they are expensive, harder to push work too (billing rates), and want to join the crowded partnership ranks....so there has to be a compelling reason. This is not everywhere, but is common in my experience.
Great lawyer. Can manage case beginning to end. And I think I can help you generate a book.
