Nope. Not that transparent at McK
Again, it is pretty transparent internally. One reason for not sharing in a public forum: it reduces the probability of awkward questions from clients.
I think it’s pretty classy of BCG. McK doesn’t have as much of a culture of secrecy around the ranges. But we don’t talk about our compensation specifics much internally bc the base and bonus are directly based on your performance rating, which is sensitive. And the range is huge. I’ve heard a low performer might make less than a high performer in the class below
Consider the google, it’s standardized and virtually lockstep in terms of base / target
Why do you care so much Op?
@OP, literally no disparity on base comp and bonus bands by tenure (literally years of service and title). Internally we have a yearly office meeting where all comp by level (including target bonuses and bonus bands) are discussed. Completely transparent internally. There's even an excel passed around with all this information. It's just nobody wants to be the one to put it on fishbowl or Glassdoor.
Let’s say if you say you’re a Principal in bcg that makes base of x and can earn a bonus of up to y etc. without saying the name of your practice specifically, no one can find out anything from Glassdoor. So why is this company so scared? Is there huge disparity and is the company trying to mask that by just scaring employees? Just a thought and not trying to be hurtful .
Then apply. I can’t imagine a scenario where our compensation would be a limiting factor for you.
Bad form? Discomfort with a public forum? The "spys" lurking in these forums for information? Lots of reasons, including that it's pretty standardized across MBB.
I literally know the base salary of every consulting staff from first year associate to fourth year principal, and so does everyone else at BCG. I assume the same is true at McK and Bain
So if it’s all the same at mbb why such stress from bcg leadership to not share? Doesn’t it seem opposite of what you’re trying to convey? It doesn’t add up.
Well not trying to skin the cat here but if it’s all the same at mbb, than you’ll get questions anyways. So it seems a futile attempt.
@d1 curioser and curioser. But generally have always liked bcg and have thought of applying in future some time.
——- ps don’t say curiosity kills the cat.
It’s been previously mentioned that BCG pays all people in a cohort the same base and only the bonus varies. Additionally MBB pays pretty similarly so what’s the incentive to share? Its not like they could get higher by going elsewhere.
@m2 sounds about right
So op what exactly are you trying to figure out??? What level are you interested in?
Oh crap, learned something different today. There clearly is a differentiation between McK and BCG. Not one is better, of course but preference can be met.
