Will you still be able to live your same lifestyle with a new baby and minimal raise? Is there more opportunity for growth at the new company or your current company? If the opportunities aren’t vastly different and you can afford to make only slightly more, I would make the jump. If it’s a company you have wanted to work for, work life balance is better and the benefits are better then make the move. I have personally held off on moving for a raise because my current job gives me a ton of flexibility.
Yes, I had thought of that as well. That is why I told the HR rep that I am pregnant right away. The people I have interviewed with are not aware of this - this was the HR rep’s decision.
I’ve had a few friends negotiate immediate eligibility for benefits upon their start date into their employment offer. I am hoping to do the same, since they are not able to offer much in the way of a raise. The HR rep said there were “other ways” we could negotiate besides base salary. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
It depends on what you are looking for and what is best for you and your family, but I always say that jobs are not just about the salary. You have to put together a holistic package that works for you - that includes salary, and also includes on all of the potential other things too: benefits, WFH, flexibility, vacation, sign-on bonus etc. What is most important to you? If salary is really most important to you, it may not be the best move right now, but if getting your foot in the door at a company you’ve been wanting to work for is your primary goal this is a great move.
If they can’t offer you a higher salary than you were looking for, it’s often easier for companies to flex and give an extra week of vacation or a one-time bonus. I think the maternity leave, better WFH and better benefits all add up in the long run into that holistic package. Good luck!
