Plan to open my own firm after coming back from vacation next month. Best time to give the firm (midsize commercial lit if that matters) notice? Concern is that giving notice immediately after coming back from vacation might burn the bridge.

If your main concern is burning bridges, I can only respond with an anecdote from my last job. An attorney many years before I arrived went on paternity leave and put in notice the day he returned (left for another company). Execs would still bring it up from time to time all those years later.

Gotta give notice before opening your firm. Whether it’s right after vacation or a couple weeks after won’t make a difference.

I’d wait til after. If you give it before they might just make your last day that day, especially if you’re hanging your own shingle and potentially poaching firm clients.

If you do billable work on a given PTO/vacation day, do you still count that day as vacation? Or do you get that vacation day "back"? Or do you only get the part that you billed "back"? (Or some other option.)

Are you spending time with family this month or next? My parents are still really worried about Covid since I work in the hospital so it looks like I may be spending the holiday season alone. I understand where they're coming from, but I'm not really sure what to do with myself next week or at Christmas. Tips? Should I try to find a remote pharm manager position?

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.

Hello! I’m based in NYC and looking for my next role. I work in the digital strategy/brand strategy space. I have experience across multiple industries (tech/telecom/Pharma (dermatology)/beauty and skin care and I am looking for a Director or VP role (my last job was a VP). I would like to keep my base of at least $180k (is this reasonable if I look for Director positions too?) Would love to land something soon before we hit the holiday season. Do you think what I am looking for is reasonable?

I’m in a little of a pickle but a good one. Offer A. Established “start up” doing well financially and projected to hit profitability. 130k base. Stocks offered, unlimited PTO, and 70% Medical covered. Offer B. Is at a business much larger…90k salary with 10% bonus and generous stock offering. Titles are different which is why the pay is much different. I know some may think it is a no brainer but offer A allows me to grow the department ground up whereas offer B id be apart of to just different
