There are fewer and fewer entering the field. USA graduates will continue to be more and more valued as new associates. Managers in a place like Houston would ask for over 100k easy and that's in as little as 4 or 5 years of service. I wholeheartedly agree that this is the easiest path to the top because firms recruit at every school. Partners who make $1m a year attended every school imaginable (as opposed to bankers and lawyers where there are higher concentrations at top schools). This can be a really solid path and even just getting the CPA license opens the flood gates of opportunities and opportunity is everything.
It really isn’t what they start at but how lucrative the career can be. I would say the starting pay is close to 60k - 70k nowadays. But what you make mid career is the selling point. Hours are probably less than they used to be for most groups. But I may have lucked out in a tax specialty where we don’t have a busy season and average week is 40 - 45. Mostly selling knowledge rather than brute force for me
Who the fuck is working less hours is what I want to know. I have not seen or experienced a shift in reducing hours at all in either big4 or midsize
A2 I make low 60s so I assume A1s are starting about 60 or so. As an associate 60ish is the worse you kinda start loosing count when you work 7 days for a few weeks. I’ve heard 90 but that doesn’t sound possible idk.I think the great resignation just allowed me to be remote more often and be staffed and strangely staffed small engagement.
Thanks all...back in 2012 big 4 were paying 57k in NJ/NYC metro... It hasn't really changed much then .
Yep I started at 51k in philadelphia big 4 in 2009. Starting salary hasn’t changed a ton but it’s much easier than ever to get to 100k a few years in if you make the right moves. Wild inflation aside $100k still isn’t that bad a salary
