“I make sure what companies report financially is correct.”

Don’t say anything more than that, because it will bore her. Ask questions about her cos women love to talk about themselves more than they do hearing about yourself, and then pay for her drink with the money you earned from that job. Best of luck my friend.

If you're looking for someone with an interesting job, I can tell you I don't have that. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me very boring for people like you. If you let our date go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will file a married filing jointly return with you.

Same way I respond to anyone when they ask what I do. It’s either…”I’m an accountant” or “I work in tax”. If they want more specifics I will dive into it but I just start there.

Honestly I tend to undersell what I do. The type of work I do is super exciting to me and I have really awesome clients but I like to make people think I’m just a stereotypical accountant.

Asking for a friend:
My friend received two job offers for Account Executive roles: a Mid-Market role with Confluent and an Enterprise role with ThoughtSpot. He’s conflicted because Confluent is a more established company, ThoughtSpot is Pre-IPO. Confluent is a lucrative product to sell and has established SDR reps so there’s a good blend of inbound and outbound sales. Thoughtspot is more of a startup culture where most of the sales comes from outbound and it’s a tougher sell.

Just finishing my first week in as an audit intern and genuinely I have no idea what I'm doing or even a general idea of the audit process. The senior associate left the engagement last week so it's just me and an associate, and they don't have time to give me instruction.

Am I stupid or did the e-learns not prepare me for any of this? The training told me I'd be auditing cash but I haven't even touched a bank reconciliation.
