You can walk 1 block to the Hilton (I think) and save big.
Where’d you take it to? There’s supposed to be a flat rate from LAX to DTLA of ~$50 so it sounds like you got hustled
The last 3 times I flew into lax I got a $25 ride to dtla on Uber. Granted it was 10pm but still pretty good
Never take any of those 🤣 take a shuttle to a hotel and go from there
Shuttle companies check reservations and have been doing so for a while. I guess you could fake a reservation. This stopped working for a while but people can probably risk it and try.
you can always rent a car and then drive yourself home to avoid the surges / etc
That's what analysts are for.
It’s never been more than $70 for me Uber wants like $100+
Next time take a shuttle to one of LAX parking structures then call a Lyft lol
Idk going home, we only pay like $28 in taxis vs. Uber/lyft are quoting $40-60+. Guess it depends where you’re going 🤷♀️
I always take a taxi and it’s always cheaper. But more importantly, it’s almost always easier.
Wow this thread got more traction than I expected! Lots of good tips here, like taking a free shuttle to a nearby hotel to avoid the surge. Other details since people were asking:
- I live in Studio City so it was like 45-50 minutes from LAX
- I didn’t realize taxis were negotiable (at the airport); surprisingly there was a long but fast taxi line, likely due to the rideshare surge, and I didn’t see anyone negotiate before hopping in
- LOL I do have friends and a husband but my husband was sick at home and I wasn’t going to have him pick me up in his condition.
- Sadly this was a personal trip not a business expense but an extra $60 paid end of the day is a cheap lesson learned
Shuttle to a hotel is risky because some do check reservations— instead you can take the Metro green line shuttle that is free and Uber or taxi from the Aviation metro stop. It does circle around to all terminals so if you’re at T1, it’ll take you longer than if you’re leaving from T7.
Good to know! I've had those thoughts too but never end up taking them.
For how long?? I always take a cab and it’s usually the same
You can quote the price using Yellow Cab app and also get discounts
Once I paid $120 for Uber from LAX to SFV. It was 2am and my mom was with me.
I'm guess it wasn't a business trip?
i use a car service.
usually have the same driver in a well-kept newer vehicle. if i need a bigger vehicle i can select from 2 sizes.
driver sticks to schedule we set based on their expertise on the time of day i am traveling.
driver always arrives early to my home.
driver is on text with me and follows my flight arrival time and i text the driver when i land and then as i am at baggage claim if i have checked bags.
from Weho to Lax or reverse I pay $55.
Could you let me know too?
LOL.
I guess you've never taken a taxi before.
Before you get in, negotiate. I have told cabbies that I would pay a flat rate to/from the airport. Most will take it, if it's a reasonable amount.
Yesterday it was $175 to OC when it was $65 to LAX from OC
No offense intended, but don't you have any friends?
I also like to ask my friends to help me do my laundry and dishes. Sure, I don’t have any friends left now, but at least I could catch up with them one last time while they do my work for me.
😂 If you’re trying to save cash - try taking the free shuttle to the green line metro stop and ride-share from there. (Until the new line opens)
