I worked in advertising for 15 years, did well and enjoyed my time even though I encountered sexism, racism, backstabbing and extremely large egos. I found the shaming and fear-mongering about how superior ad agencies are over the new comers silly and a way to hold you back along with all the other items I mentioned. It's the attitudes expressed above that holds the industry back. I can attest at Edelman Digital, I've encountered some of the most talented and insightful creatives. The work is more authentic than stuff I produced at large well-known agencies. It connects, its smart and its brave. There's no one holding us back telling us what is right in an industry designed to only let you go so far (and works you to death) before you age out or discover you aren't apart of the mean or boy's club that makes an agency go round. If you are just seeking approval from other current ad agency people then go to another ad agency. And, enjoy the rinse and repeat. Or learn something new.
I left your classic ad agency for edelman (NY) and it’s a blast! We are doing big creative work, and the people are smart and insightful. The benefits are wonderful and they pay really well. Idk what Strat 1 is talking about, but I’m sorry you had such a negative experience at such a great place.
Is there a PM function?
@OP, you need to give them a way to contact you. Fishbowl doesn't have a private messaging feature.
PS - working in PR is like life after death post Ad agency. Have ideas. Make stuff. No creative egos. Just people making sh#t happen.
I was fat and then I went to Edelman, I lost 20 pounds.
This 👆👆👆👆💯
Edelman sucks. It’s not a real agency fellow advertising people. It’s like a Vayner, ewww. Former R/GAer btw, left 6 months ago.
same i love edelman. im on the ditigal team and some of the team i work are some of the smartest people ive ever met. creatives with no egos fresh thinking and always willing do whats right from the brand. i came from those big well known ditigal shops you guys swear your careers by and i couldnt be happier. smart and nice is possible and it's at edelman. if you guys are looking for work im pretty sure the project management team is hiring. just reach out to HR for digital NY its on the site
Do u need producers @0P?
It's been almost 4 months for me (I was in the July batch of layoffs) and I'm starting to question every decision I've ever made.
Work/Life balance sounds great to me. I hate when agencies insult each other. Egos are the death of this industry. Most of the haters are usually those who think they know everything and embarass themselves.
I'm sure that depends on the situation, but I can't answer that with 100% certainty, as I'm not an HR person! I would just check out LinkedIn to see what specifically we have listed, apply... and then just see where it leads. Cheers!
@AD2 deff check out the recs. but also just reach out to HR, they might have a position open that hasn’t been posted yet. 🤞🏽
Shoutout to @Edelman3, I think you rock, and I so hope I bump into your positive self tomorrow!
We have a digital department that functions like any other digital agency. Yes, we have PMs.
It’s where possible creatives go to win a Stevie, or an Effie.
Just wait a few weeks/months R/GAers, don't make any brash moves
@AD2 to it!! Reach out to HR! Come work with us!
I thought Edelman was a PR agency though. How much is PR and how much is creative advertising?
@AD1 not there yet, but I want to be.
^anything in NY? Do they offer relocation?
ACD1 yes there is.
