Question for moms w/ multiple pregnancies. My first came as a preemie and she was only about 1.5 lbs when born. Contractions started at 3, water broke at 3:40 and baby was born by 4:30, so very quick. Second baby is looking to be full term so I’m trying to anticipate what this labor will be like. My dr has said that it will likely be quick, but curious as to whether contractions second time around felt more intense, similar, or easier. Did you feel like things went more smoothly 2nd time around

Both my deliveries started out pretty similarly: water broke during the night and contractions took a while to start (had to get pitocin for my first and miso for the second to induce). But when things started progressing it was much much faster with the second. With my first I pushed for 1h45m. With my second I went from 4cm dilated to having a baby in one hour. So from my experience, when you reach active labor things move faster... but until that point it can still be kind of slow.

Didn’t go into natural labor with first and was induced 12 days past due date. With second contractions started with low intensity but high frequency (~3 minutes apart). Because they were so frequent from the jump and I didn’t really experience early contractions at all with my first I didn’t even think they were real contractions until I hit hour three and they were staying consistent. Went to hospital then and was ready to push maybe another hour after being admitted. It was fast.

Hi 👋 mom of multiples here and very similar experience. My doctor calls them canon ball babies - babies that are delivered very quickly. Although all of my pregnancies were different the delivery was always very fast. Once almost delivered in the hospital elevator. So as soon as my water broke i would head to the hospital asap!

My labor was exactly the same but delivery was much faster with #2. Not sure if my vaj just knew the drill or I remembered how to much correctly or a combo of the two. First time I pushed for 2 hrs, 2nd time was 30 mins.

I’ve found each successive labor and delivery was a little faster, start to finish.

Definitely similar. I did an epidural the first time, because I thought I couldn’t handle the pain, but I hated the lingering feeling of the needle insertion point in my back that took months and months to go away, so I did no medication for labors after that. The contractions were faster without pain intervention on subsequent births, and the babies practically shot out. At the time all I remember was thinking OMG I can’t survive these contractions but after it was over, no regrets. The recovery time was so much faster than with an epidural, and so was the actual pushing process.
