a few weeks ago we had a super busy day with scripts and i think i went into ‘autopilot’ because i don’t remember it happening, but i handed out the wrong prescription to someone (before you get mad, i only started a few weeks ago and i’m a junior assistant), out of all people i could’ve given the wrong medication to, it was a blind person. i have severe anxiety already and want to know some tactics to go back to work without guilt? i take guilt very heavy and struggle to get past it all

You’re human. Mistakes happen. Learn from it. It’ll make you better. And never rush. No matter what. When the storm starts, take a breath and tell yourself to just focus.

Create a routine for yourself. Write down everything you need to verify at pickup, put it in the order that makes sense to you and works with the register prompts, and do it that way every. single. time. Put it on a post- it at the register if you need to until it becomes habit.

These are great suggestions. If you’ve been a pharmacist long enough you will have at least one near miss. Aim for zero harm. Know that the systems you work with should be designed to catch human error and if one got through, analyze how it failed and design a fix for your work environment. For example, two sets of eyes on every Rx before dispense. If you are working alone, find a way to take a fresh look at that Rx. Ideally for me, I check off on the Rx each element as I check it. The ‘systematic’ check is needed bc you will be interrupted and this will get you back on track.

Hang in there!

Write Din last 4 numbers..every rx

I’m a designer in the planning/landscape architecture dept. of a CE firm. Extremely frustrated that after 4+ years and multiple asks, I’m not getting the in-field construction experience I’ve asked for. I know that my designs could be better if I could see how things are actually built but I get slapped in the face with “I need you in the office designing/drafting” or “there’s no budget to have you go out” and then sends an intern to inspect instead. I’m 5 yrs out of college. Any advice?

My company covers in depth results each week, including meetings set/attended, wins, revenue, retention etc. I feel as if evaluating in such depth is detrimental to the psyche, as you never get to “ride the high.” In addition, some weeks are simply slower than others, and it’s not always representative of what the results at the end of the period or quarter will be. Is this not a big deal, and I’m I placing too much importance on it? Or is it beneficial to review results less frequently?
