Dude. You are doing this prep work during prime time client business hours? Are you a millennial? You do your personal pursuits off hours.
If you’re working until 2200 most days, wouldn’t anyone need to still get haircuts, see a doctor, etc.? It seems unreasonable to expect you not to have any of those responsibilities, ever. Did they say anything directly about this?
@Di3: Yes, because most companies will run job interviews at 11pm 😞
Like I’m damaging the relationships because they think I’m lacking effort since interviewing and applying is a part time job. Like it’s obvious I’m not 100% engaged. Just not sure how to juggle this and maintain good standing. This project has been very demanding, in office until 10pm.
Also why is the prep taking several hours, are these case interviews? The last 4 companies I applied for, I prepared maybe 45 min for the first one, but I was applying for more tech focused positions
Op it doesn’t sound like you’re being very respectful if you’re ditching out on the team for hours at a time to prep. Why do you need to prep? I haven’t prepped for the last 3-4 jobs I’ve interviewed for and got offers. It’s really not that hard if you’re good. But perhaps your performance isn’t that strong to begin with so your OoO is compounding the problem?
So they know you’re planning to leave?
If I was working until 10 everyday, I would schedule interviews on Friday to avoid any random disappearances while on site
D3, sitting in a team room. Until 10/11. Friday is not always an option for companies. Lot of employees are off so interviewing isn’t always feasible. I’m very respectful. I think it’s really tough to juggle.
Do your prep on the weekend. You are in jeopardy of getting rolled off with burning bridges here. Not good. Take a full week of PTO for weeks that you need to be off, but you can’t just plan at the last minute for time off. Not fair for your team
I’ll remember that when I’m billing 40 hours and getting worked 80 but told not to put actuals. Deloitte has provided me unbelievable opportunity, but has equally taken advantage / exploited me. It’s time to go is all, no hard feelings. I guess there is no easy way to interview with the hours and travel of consulting.
It was a joke Cinderella. Close the door on your way out...:
Op you sound very dramatic.
This is obviously M - Th and Friday is until 5pm. But interviewing and preparing is a part time role. For every 30 minute call, there are a few hours of prep. So being 100% engaged is impossible especially as you transition to in person
Can you schedule the interviews during lunch time and just ditch the team for lunch to “take care of something personal”?
This is the same as stealing. You are a time bandit! 😻👽🙌🤟🏽👽👩🎤👩🎤
OP just sounds like a genuinely conflicted person in difficult situation. Time is hard to manage in this profession with this company. @OP if you feel like something is off, something is probably off. Advise figuring out how to make the impact less noticeable/palpable, which I know is vague as hell and extremely difficult. But you can do it! I believe in you!
