Questions on getting into PE:
- Would it be better to try to go MBB Associate to PE Analyst/Associate (not sure of the level), or go MBB to IB to PE?

- Is it better to try to leverage industry experience to target specific funds or be a generalist?

- Does anyone have resources on making the transition (recruiting tips, modeling exercises, etc.)?

1. Just go from MBB - people on this app and in general understate the number of firms that hire MBB/consultants

2. If you want to be a generalist be a generalist. If you have a specific sector that you like, go for that

like

Thanks for words! There’s certainly some sort of generic hypothesis about the path being ONLY IB to PE, which is clearly nonsense

like

Following.

I do think it’s generally harder to go consulting to investment team at a PE firm but def not worth it to do MBB then banking IMO

For modeling, YouTube and there’s a ton out there to practice whether it’s paper LBOs or full three statement build out.

Hi guys, I’m debating switching careers. I’m currently a mortgage loan officer but I’m very interested in SE. My degree is in finance. There’s a coding bootcamp near me called Boca Code that’s supposed to be top notch. I’m curious for feedback on 1. Are coding bootcamps actually a way into the industry like they’re marketed? And 2. What is a realistic starting salary for entry level SE? I’ve read and been told 90k, but that seems high.

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's Master's in Management. My remit quadrupled+ in a recent re-org with no increase in pay/promotion, my new director is new to the company and was zero help, and I was passed over for recent promotion during the comp cycle. The new director essentially began shutting me down any time I ask for clarity in my career progression. Now they have taken credit for the project I’ve been building over the past year+ without giving me props whatsoever to higher ups. What is the best plan of action here?

Hey! I've always wanted to get into IB (prestige, money, you name it), however now that I'm in a more laid back environment (better WLB, "easier work") it doesn't seem as attractive as before and the pay is quite good for an analyst level (I think the pay is competitive even comparing with IB's pay in my country) . I wanted to know if anyone had the same experience and what were your thoughts (pursue an MBA and leave your comfort zone and "good pay" or just stick with it). TIA!
