Random thought for the group: for those of you who’ve hit a point in your career where you’re solid, respected, and stable but not necessarily stretched, how did you decide whether to double down where you are or make a lateral move just to spark growth again?

I'm also at that point now. I'm doing some serious soul searching to see what my path forward looks like. My 2 cents: do the work to make sure it's the right move or you'll be doing this again soon enough.

I've never made a lateral move. If I'm stuck I will find a new company and position to climb the ladder.

I made a lateral move, and it’s been great for me. I didn’t lose the comfort or respect, but I have gotten to do something a bit different. I would say that your company matters a lot in what they have available.

Asked my coach and mentor for advice.

Whenever I am considering a move, I very carefully weigh the benefits and the drawbacks. I am definitely at a point now where I am financially very comfortable, and I am pretty unwilling to take on additional stress or anything else that would negatively impact my home life.

Hey guys! Currently in WM ops at Morgan Stanley for the past 1 year dealing with alternative lending, I’m super underpaid with 3 years of experience which is very frustrating. (73k). Have been at Morgan for 1 year and looking to come over to JPM for an ideal pay bump, but would like to get into IB type roll. Any insight on what I should expect or how to go about applying? Maybe even getting referred? I have a deep knowledge of investments and always felt inclined to go down this route.

Hello, I am a junior business administrator working in advisory operations. I have been with the company for 6 months, and was employed along with 2 other colleagues. I have picked the job up really fast and am even doing some “extra curricula’s” I really love my job. However I have recently found out I am being paid the same as an apprentice on my team, I usually do at 3 x the work he does whilst also doing my Cert CII. It has really disheartened me and I feel I should be earning more money

In my organization, most with my role are commission based. I make a set salary due to the firm I work for as an account manager/ coordinator for clients… I coordinate their enrollments, working with each groups HR department as to benefits and payroll purposes, and schedule our benefit counselors accordingly. I am finding that in most cases where I compare the voluntary benefits industry, I might be underpaid. What is an appropriate base salary for a position in which commission is replaced?

I have been talking to a recruiter for a little over a month about a position. I let her know out the gate that I really wasn’t looking to change jobs, but she just kept wanting to continuing the conversation. I didn’t have 2 interviews with the hiring coming and they know that I am not really looking to make a switch. They are now working on an offer letter and I know they’re going to offer me more money. I’m having my annual review this week. Any advice on how to handle a) job offer b) review?

Hello everyone ,
I’m currently working in insurance customer service at an agency. I work in the mortgage department assisting w mortgage changes , payments etc. I’ve been thinking about becoming a claims adjuster most likely for property damage . Is it worth it ??? I hear a lot of talk about how claims adjusting is a lot of work and very demanding but I think my current position has prepared me for the challenge. What are some good companies I maybe should apply for after getting my license?
