Hard work is not luck.
I failed my first test in intro accounting at college with a 36. I had to drop the class and retake it. I studied my ass off the next 3 years and was never better than a C student. The point I'm trying to make is that Im definitely not gifted beyond average in mental capacity and evidenced by my grades, don't possess a knack for accounting.
I graduated and went to work. I studied my ass off for 8 months while working full time as an associate to pass the CPA. I went 4/4 with my grades being 76 FAR, 76 AUD, 79 REG, 81 BEC. EFFORT is what it takes. Not talent. Anyone of average intellect CAN pass the CPA if they're dedicated and follow the Becker plan imo. Just take it one day at a time. You can do it.
Def not luck lol. You get out what you put in. There are lots of people I work with who are "studying" and even get time off to study, but they don't maximize that time. CPA is not about how smart you are, it about how bad you want it
You can definitely do it if you dedicate yourself and focus on the goal. It's also important that you don't put too much pressure or stress yourself out though. Remind yourself that the prep courses are designed to earn you that passing grade and prepare you sufficiently for that! Stressing out and pressuring yourself adds no benefit - just stay calm throughout the process. And remember- you don't need to get everything right to pass! If you're taking the test and you don't know something just move on and circle back if you can, don't let it get you down.
It also doesn't help that we have to wait 3-4 months to get our scores with the new test. I put at least 150 hours into REG and I even work in tax. I will be devastated if i fail.
Honestly, didn't think the test was that hard. Change your mentality and plan to kick its ass. I'd cram mine into a week/ week in a half, sometimes less, and got 84,86,89,94. I've always been one to ace tests naturally, so I get that's an advantage, however if you have the right mindset and put in the work you can get it done.
Also I agree on Becker suggestions. Hammer the homework. Right or wrong it explains why and helps you understand why that's the answer, and or how to get there.
The new Becker is set up so much better for knowledge retention and understanding. Just take it slow and don't move on until you get it.
People don't rise to the occasion; they fall back to the level of their training
If you are putting in hundreds of hours and still failing you are doing something wrong. Work smarter not harder.
I second that effort is what matters. I went to law school with some people who didn't know their head from their butt, but they studied constantly and did well on the bar and passed like everyone else. Just make your study time consistent and meaningful. Follow Becker plan if they have one---they have probably built in a fair amount of over studying so that people actually pass.
