Do you not already make 200k? Director position in corporate strategy could be a good fit, easier hours than consulting and 200k is doable
Yeah I’m around $230k all in currently. That’s a good idea, thank you!
8 yrs out of UG so you must be M or SM? Is your target 200k TC or base?
Yup I rounded up to 8 years (I’m at 7.5) will be a SM in the summer. Total comp around 200 would be great
What skills would you say you have?
what department would you fit into in a midsize/small 500 person industry type company? Accounting/Finance, Purchasing, HR, Sales, IT, Operations - where could you add value day one?
Yeah, would echo SC1– director level roles in corporate strategy will get you past 200. The question is sort of whether or not you can land a director level role with 8 YOE. Definitely not impossible, but most of the directors at my company tend to be 10-15 YOE, and I think that’s common at traditional big corporations. But, it could happen. Find the right company.
Well, for context, I’m at the senior manager level (product management is my function) at a traditional industry company and my target comp is ~$180K. I think that’s fairly common for the level. I have 7 YOE and I’m based in Chicago.
Is that too low? If so...begin applying to director level roles, gather feedback, see what you can get, and stay at consulting until then. If you have the background to go into finance, that’s an option. Big tech will pay more so if you have the background to go there, explore that route (don’t need director level for tech/finance, so your years of experience is a good fit).
Individual contributor roles in FAANG would be over $250k easy. What role are you targeting?
Amazon does not really go higher on base than that. Their total comp is way higher though, they emphasize RSUs. Base doesn’t go higher for anyone really.
