Thank the firm and ask for time to review the offer to stall a bit. I wouldn't state off the bat you are more interested in the other offer because that might rub them the wrong way - they might the not want to hire you for this role and think you will just look for better opportunities/not be reliable. Do you mean leverage in terms of salary? Are the roles at the same pay grade/level? Might be tricky.
Yes, leverage in terms of salary. Both roles are the same level and serve a relatively similar function within the institution. My interest may be a tad higher in the second role.
The best you can do is to ask the other employer for an extension. Just be honest with them. If you have the experience, and skills and have proven yourself in that field, then I think you can leverage the salary.
This is tricky if the firm with the offer gave you what you asked for. If not, then ask them to give you some time- usually 2 to 3 days. Simultaneously, call the firm you just interviewed with to ask if they are making a hire/not hire decision soon as you have any offer in hand. Their answer or lack off, will guide your next move.
This is why you always say “YES” to the recruiting question “Are you interviewing else where?”
Yes you def can. I would just ask for additional time to consider the role from the place you already got an offer, and then get the other offer. Decide which you like best and then use it if you need to
Are you saying both roles are from the same company? I know with our recruiters they can see all active applications. So both may know you are in the interview process. Also I had a teammate accept one role internally then the 2nd finally reached out and she accepted that one and turned down the other because she hadn’t actually started it yet
