Recently crossed $3M invested (plus a healthy $100k+ emergency fund). I’m 42, and for the first time I feel like I don’t have to save aggressively to hit my long-term goals ($5M by 50, $10M by 60).

For those of you who’ve reached your “number,” what was the mental shift like when you moved from accumulation mode to a more balanced pace?

It's a pretty good feeling. I always had a "soft" number in my head, and I blew past that a few years ago. I'm now in the process of transitioning my duties to others so I can retire in a year. Given my role, I don't have the ability to leave much sooner than I am. It's an amazing feeling to train your replacement with no regrets! Best of luck to you.

We are indeed on a similar boat! It’s good to know it’s a path that has been walked before :- )

I’m in a similar boat. For me, once I knew I had enough money to coast into retirement, my stress level dropped significantly. I’ve also thought about whether I want to keep doing this (accumulating money) or go do something more interesting (albeit not as lucrative).

like

I thought this would happen for me when we hit our number but the opposite happened. Why? I think it’s because I recognized that I really know how to make money.

I tried to retire a couple of years ago and it was too early. So I’m now back at it ~3 days a week.

It keeps me sharp with zero stress as I know I can hang it up anytime.

How do you do this. I'm 37 and nowhere close to those amounts. I also live in a HCOL area

Once you get the first $500k or $1M saved it tends to grow pretty fast due to compounding/market growth, and even more quickly if you continue to contribute.
I just looked back at our path- we had liquid investments of
$500k at 36
$1M at 41
$2M at 46 and
$4M at 50
Also in a HCOL..

I’m in a similar boat, but it’s still not enough to quit right now unfortunately.

In similar position, targeting 6 million by 50, with hopefully a career pivot at that point to something less stressful.

Any tips for organizing a bedroom, closet, dresser & bathroom? My teen has IADHD, and low executive functioning. Her room looks like a land mine. Clean clothes are mixed in with dirty, her desk is a disaster, she won’t let go of clothes she’s outgrown, drawers are open with clothes hanging out. A therapist said to close her door if we don’t want to see it but it’s more than that. She needs this important life skill & I don’t know how to help. Easier to organize w/o her but that’s not a solution.

Any insight on Brewer (either office, generally curious about the firm). I assume comp after year 1 is discretionary, rather than lock-step, given the size of the firm. Would appreciate happiness, horror stories, of whatever “firm culture” falls between the two. DM me if you don’t want to share publicly.

I just graduated from a nontarget in Dec 2020 & am currently interning at PwC before I go back to do my Masters. My initial plan was to accept my full time offer and slowly work my way into IB.

I see postings right now for FT IB analyst programs. Should I even try applying online?

Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls. It’s a modest Midwest city with ~100k residents but is a relatively touristy spot. It often feels like a MCOL area but I’m not sure how to adequately judge that, and it would be helpful to know when comparing salaries and the like.

Well yes. Crypto is taxed like stocks & other types of property. When you sell for a profit, you are required to pay tax on the gains. It’s called capital gains tax.

Too few accounts currently paid as agreed
FICO®

Scores consider the number of accounts that are paid as agreed. Your score was impacted because the number of these accounts is too low, or because you've missed payments recently on some of your accounts.

Home reno financing question. Have a big project coming up in the $120-150k range. Funding sources are:
- 90k from a heloc around prime
- 10k from a credit card that offers promo checks at 2-3% for 12-18 months
- 375k in a brokerage
- 5-6k per month cash that I can put towards the project, loans, or brokerage

I don't want to stop funding the brokerage because my FIRE plan is less numbers based than "hoard like dragon until it's enough" but maybe I should... How would you optimize?
