Pwc1 - you really recommend getting a travel job? Bailing and leaving partner to do everything?
Seems a bit selfish, and I’m not sure why you’d want kids if this is your attitude.
As to the why I took the full leave all at once, that is what my family needed, splitting up wouldn’t work for us and actually make it way harder on my scheduling team and engagements
I’m on week two of being back from 4 month paternity as well. Definitely a strange feeling to be back and really missing my child, but at the end of the day your child is relying on you so you need to put your game face on and do the best you can at work. Then once you get back home you’ll have good quality time with them again
Level? I'm sure you'll be back to normal in a few weeks. Take your time. Hopefully you're not immed staffed in a high visibility role, but you'll make it anyway. Trick is to get enough sleep and take it one step at a time. Try to find a week where you can be remote if possible. Depend on your team. You all win together, so no one needs to be a hero.
Manager and first kid
For me becoming a new father changed everything—priorities, outlook on life. A little hard to explain, but new fathers’ brains physically rewire and change (Doidge, “The Brain that Changes Itself”). Life is different, but I think fatherhood has made me a more compassionate and effective manager.
First kid?
This will be my exact situation in 7 weeks, very nervous
Why did you disconnect that long?
4 months. Geez. Is that what people are taking these days? I would have split it up over time. You should prob get on a travel gig so you can really separate
Wow, when I had kids I think I was able to take a week off. 4 months?!?!
