Throw me your interview. Are you post-MBA?
Do it! Welcome to the dark side
Do it. No downside.
Op - Sometimes they don't actually ask why you left the firm recently coz they know people job hop all the time. It's demand and supply situation. So don't worry about it. Even if they bring it, tell "yes I do left industry for xyz reason but seems it's not true and love to get back to consulting".
Don’t waste my time
You mean BCG’s?
@ P1 - No, pre-MBA.
Was it via online application or referral?
@ BCG1 - But what would I tell the interviewer? “Actually, I recently left XXX firm..."
Ok thank you
@EY2 - Thank you. I just don’t want to waste anyone’s time and mar my resume with such a short stint at this new job.
If you get it and switch quickly you don't even have to put this job on your resume
Take it. Worst case scenario you get turned down. I imagine the interview will be fun or I'm weird and like interviewing.
@ McK and Director1 - Both of you are more seasoned professionals than I am... if you saw someone who’s under 30 having worked at 3 companies (1 was valid... I left when company was going through layoffs after it acquired another company), would you be concerned?
Not really. I assume BCG is a step up in prestige so no harm in talking to them. What you will need to do is explain to BCG why consulting once again makes sense which will be tough. I try not to invest in folks who will immediately leave. I'd like most to at least make it to the next level of the org.
Thanks for the feedback, Director1. Yes, BCG is a big step up... I’m actually a committed person
(Maybe too committed and that’s what causes burnout)... I’m not sure what the best way to rebound is. Any advice would be well-appreciated.
I would simply take the interview, no downside and come up with a clear story. If that story is: “I started industry for reason x (layoffs?) but I miss the dynamics of consulting and BCG is my dream job for reason A,B,C” - I see no reason why hopping would be held against you. Once you’re in, it’s BCG’s job to make sure you’re happy and that you want to stay
@ PwC1 - Online application as an experienced hire. Was contacted by recruiting in early fall and by the time late autumn rolled around, I had to make a decision between industry and staying at my firm while gambling for a slim chance at BCG. You can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to hear back today.
@ BCG1 - How has your experience at BCG been thus far?
I absolutely love it - I am 3 Years in and not bored yet. Fill in all the cliches: really smart/fun people, hard work but learning a lot
