What level are you? Like if you are a senior or above, you shouldn’t require someone micromanaging your time so just keep a backlog of work and enjoy the time where nobody bothers you and be productive. Your day from 12-5 will likely fill up with zoom/teams calls
Same here but I’m in central, so before 11 I can just do work if I have some or sleep in/laundry/errands. But then I typically still end at 5 cst every day with the occasional meeting at 5 or 6. Pretty nice!
Same. Barely working 30 hours a week and still somehow chores and errands keep me busy
This is happening to me. I’m on 6 hours a day. Finish at 6pm EST
I am the reverse! Which I honestly find really great. Get it all done, get a nap, then I still have daytime to take care of things.
Most of my clients and agents are on the west coast. While I used to end at 5pm cst, the late calls kept driving me up the walls. Now I just skew my hours and work 10/6 or 11/7 depending on the day, which gives me my mornings to do all the things I’d normally sneak in after work.
Same!
I used to use the morning to go to the gym.
Now this month bc of omicron either - catch up on tv, read a book, have a catch up call with old coworkers, or just wake up late lol sometimes it’s nice to wake up at 10/11am on a weekday
Was that the agreement when you started?
Well during low reason my hours are effectively 12-5 (no calls or meetings before noon and I get everything done before my EOD).
During busy season I start my day “early” (aka 6 am for the rest of the team). I will work my full day, til around 4pm PST. After that I mainly keep my laptop open for support or misc emails, but not doing actual work.
I’m the same! My first few weeks have been really long days to allow myself to connect with my team and learn my roles. It’s typically about 10am-10pm for me, with a break around 6-8pm for dinner. Some days I’m able to log off at 6 and just monitor email from there.
I have had very open conversations with my team that once I’m operating a bit more independently (hopefully by next month), I’d like to be working more in Eastern time and everyone is very supportive of this goal.
Also, we use Google calendar. There’s a function in there to set your working hours. I’ve set mine to 8-6pm (eastern) so that my team is reminded when they’re scheduling meetings after my working hours. Highly recommend for a subtle reminder to our west coast friends.
Was in a similar situation last year, I just worked my normal hours and they worked theirs. No need to be online at the exact same time with them every day unless getting close to a deadline
My SO has the opposite. We are west coast bis team is east coast. He starts at 7am PST and then is usually off by 2 or 3 when they log off unless he has a few extra things to get done. Afterwards he usually takes a nap and I am very jealous 😂 as long as you communicate to your team these are my hours, so they know when your offline you have already finished a full day you should be fine.
Mine is the opposite, I started new job on the west coast but my team is all on the east coast.
I work east coast hours and finish my days at 2pm. It’s wonderful!
How did you find your job?
I had the same situation for a two year long project. I used to be available between 10-6pm. It was actually nice because my mornings were distraction free and I could still log off latest by 6pm. On the other side I think my colleagues used to log off by 3pm PST too because I seldom found them online after that
Yes except it’s to mountain time so only 2 hours behind. Most of my team status at 11 my time. Rarely do I find myself working beyond 530/6 eastern so I honestly just really enjoy those hours for myself in the morning where I can knock out emails and get some uninterrupted, heads down work time. For me I felt I got more focused when I’d have a to do list ready to go for me in the morning, a fresh cup of coffee and some music. Otherwise it’s too easy to just do nothing.
