There’s a 70/30 shot you’re correct, but in either case it isn’t worth the emotional investment you’ve put in

Your assessment is incorrect. Delays are common enough to not assume it's bad news.
Was in a similar position last week.
Final round: you'll hear back Wednesday
Follow up on Thursday
Recruiter: I'm meeting with team tomorrow morning
Stress all of Friday morning, don't see any response
As someone else said, just try to emotionally detach and move on. By 4 pm, I ended just taking a nap to forget about the whole thing.
Woke up pleasantly surprised about the good news that was sent at 5 pm
Just follow up and let him/her know that your next-steps re: competing offers are time sensitive. As such, you’d appreciate an update before end-of-business today, otherwise he/she may withdraw you from consideration for the position the recruiter is leaving you hanging on. And thank him/her for their prompt attention to the request.
Or leave out the part about asking to be withdrawn. Just highlight that you need a status so you can manage expectations/responses on competing offers.
Its just that the whole experience have been very unprofessional. Its not just these guys, but in general. Its ridiculous the standard they hold you during interviews but can’t make interviews on time, be prepared or just handle basic logistics and coordination
Seller’s market my friend
Can’t assume the worst. Most things are out of the recruiters control. They are simply the middle man and can’t help it if other people are slow to respond and make a decision.
