Ughh the frustration is real. How are you even a recruiter? And what is the point. Of making candidates fill out lengthy applications if all you are doing is looking at the resume and not even the damn application! And then act as if it’s the candidates fault that they didn’t know you were out of state. Has this happened to anyone else?
You’re resume didn’t say your location so I assumed you were local.
Candidate: I filled out the online application and candidate profile. Both say the state I’m located in. I assumed if you put me through two rounds of interviews you were open to relocation.
Recruiter: Well we aren’t offering relocation right now unfortunately.
Share the blame, OP. If you’re applying for an out of state spot, the relo question should be your number one question.
CD1 yes it’s definitely a learning experience with client side recruiters. However, I was surprised when they came back and said they were going to move forward with a video call for this round of interviews. So, perhaps they are still open to it if they decide to hire me.
How bad do you want the job? If it were W+K I’d call out sick, drive to Portland if I couldn’t catch an immediate flight, and interview ASAP. I would even take an Uber from one coast to the other while I make sure my book is pristine if necessary.
Can you not cash flow travel yourself if it were a good job?
This response makes my head hurt. 1) It probably isn’t W+K since they relocate people from all over the world. 2) Drive to Portland from where? Florida to Oregon in the winter would be a fun drive. 3) “Call out sick” then drive to Portland... and return to your current job the next business day? Huh. I guess this would have to be on a Friday. If your out sick for several days, which fictional illness would you go with, Mono? 4) Drive to Portland because you couldn’t find an “immediate flight”? Guess that would work if you lived in Beaverton. Otherwise, flying is still the fastest way to travel 1000’s of miles immediately, I think. 5) The world record for longest Uber Ride is supposedly 2,256 miles cross-country and it cost over $10,000. Ok. 6) While you “make sure your book is pristine”? I guess you’d be editing out old campaigns and creating spec ads while riding in an Uber for four to six days. 7) Is cash flow travel even a thing? 😀
Always put the city on your resume. Sorry OP, it’s not the recruiter’s fault this time.
No need for the sarcasm (or the projection). It’s clear now that you wrote this venting post out of frustration and you only wanted our collective validation, not differing views or any discussion abt it. I get it.
So the lesson you talked about learning… is that going forward, you are going to talk to the recruiter about the city—because you don’t have it on your resume… 🤷♀️ Ok.
