Need some advice here. I am a fullstack developer with 5 yoe in Angular and Python. My aim is to crack FAANG companies. Now I got an offer from HSBC in a credit risk model monitoring role using Python. It is close to a data engineer role.
My question is that will it be a good idea to shift from development role to a model monitoring role if I want to move to FAANG in the future?Or does FAANG not prefer people who are not in core development roles?Amazon Microsoft Google Adobe PwC EY Citi Barclays JPMorgan Chase

I never was promoted anywhere. No matter how good my reviews were. Always promises and in the best case scenario, I’d get some ridiculous 6% raise that I couldn’t even notice. Every raise and promotion I have gotten, was because I jumped to a different agency.

If you want to make more money you need to get another job somewhere else unfortunately.
I was just going to say that. And go big—it’s a game. You want $20k more? Say you’re looking for (X+$30). I ended up with a$45k increase and 5 weeks vacation
There are people working way shittier jobs than you making way less money and will never see much a raise let alone promotion. Does that make you feel better now? Oh it doesn’t? That’s because comparison is the thief of joy. Comparing your income to people in other industries is an exercise that will only result in misery. Never the other way around. You’re a junior, pay is going to be low until you level up and make some agency jumps. After two years I went from 65k to 92k. Work harder than your peers but also build your network. Your book and who you know are all that you can control. Try to enjoy life outside of work too. I believe in you!

I got a 40% raise this year. In the same agency. It’s possible.

No. I didn’t have to use another offer. It’s not as rare as you think. If you win a big account or make a famous piece of work it often happens.
So your roommate gets paid to sit around and watch people play music? Or do they just scroll through Spotify and make sure everything stays where it’s supposed to be?
Works in spec so a lot of contract management. def less ‘labor’ intensive than a creative but still mind numbing it’s its own way.
Jumping or promotions are the two ways to get the most amount of money. I’ve almost doubled my salary in under two years going from senior to CD.
