If you work for an employer with a 401k, you likely get no benefit from a trad (depending on your income). You will phase out of being able to make a Roth contribution as you make more money. However, there is no phase out based on income for a Roth 401k. Additionally, if your 401k allows for in service rollovers, you can make an after tax contribution into your 401k, and then roll it into a Roth IRA. Meaning you can put tens of thousands of dollars into a Roth IRA every year as rollovers do not count as contributions, and are not subject to their limit.
