Rules of Zoom/Video Conf backgrounds
1. Room/plants (non-artificial) = powerful, natural
2. Blurred = coward
3. Company virtual background = corporate slave
4. Non-company virtual background = dangerous coward

Them the rules, spread the word 👍

i once used a specific “black couch” that is a symbol in the adult entertainment industry as my zoom background in college. i call that dangerous and powerful. at face value, it is a simple office background, but if anyone speaks out about it, they’re in the the hot seat.

Well this certainly makes me feel better! My desk is situated in front of my bookcase that holds all my plants! I’ve had lots of people ask if it was a virtual background since my plants are thriving! Lol!

So a 420 background is very powerful?

Or maybe not everyone has a lot of space at home to work and when on camera prefer privacy to all the things going on in the background.

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. The school had 10 interview slots for me to choose from. Three were one day this week and the rest are next week. I chose the first time slot available. Should I have waited until one of the last slots so I was fresher on their mind when choosing a candidate? I am just sitting here stressing out until I here something. Also, do interviewers still appreciate a hand written thank you for the interview?

If you work with me, you’ll recognize this from our Zoom and Teams calls.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
