When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. I was taken aback recently when a friend told me I am calloused and cold-hearted for not being able to say those words. Is she right? This person left me a VM saying they were sorry they couldn’t come; they have leukemia and their Dr. didn’t approve. Do I need to call them back? I would like to avoid an awkward phone call about personal matterwith a stranger but also don’t want to be insensitive.

I made a mistake. I talked with the ex this morning. He said he misses me. And that while he walk talking to the other woman, he wished he was talking to me instead. And when he saw that I didn’t respond to his texts, he drank a shit ton. And then called this morning.

I just got approved to start my hiring process as a substitute teacher in Hudson County. I just wonder how much is the pay per hour and if they will give me the option to work at the same school or they will make me rotate between schools as needed?

I am a substitute teacher. I was a social worker in a previous Ife. After 8 years I have discovered that substitute teaching is perfect for me and I love it. The past few years I have found a niche in high school. The kids are incredible and I can't wait for the school year to begin. However there have already been several opportunities in middle school. I will admit I'm a little nervous about middle school. Does anyone have any suggestions about middle school students?

Are there any Teaching Permit for Statutory Leave (TPSL) substitute teachers? If so how did you get into it? I’m covering a position that should really be covered by someone who has one and will not be able to cover the whole assignment. As it is, I am in a weird loophole. The main teacher is in 3 days a week and her co-teacher 2 days a week. Both are out so I am covering techinically 2 different teachers and thus doing 30 days for each of them. How do I get upgraded to the TPSL?
