Seen a lot of folks wear rain jackets up to $500.
What makes them noticeably better than the ones 1/10 the price like from Columbia?

Do you want to impress people walking by you on the street that you don’t know and will never see again? That’s the difference.

Also... the Columbia ones are really good and a decent brand as well.

In general, the technology is better. More expensive jackets will be more lightweight, breathable, etc. They’re also usually (not always) assembled better and last longer. Also, many outdoor companies prioritize things like sustainable materials and environmentally friendly shipping and packaging, which can drive prices up. But I feel better about wearing a Patagonia jacket than one from Walmart or something.

up
Patagonia is a B Corp, so instead of prioritizing profits for shareholders, it prioritizes things like sustainable materials, environmentally friendly shipping and packaging and ensuring its vendors provide living wages to their employees. While that can drive the price up, I’d rather support a company like Patagonia

Disagree with partner 1.

Some people like me just like nice things. I’m genuinely happy wearing my arcteryx jacket and it has nothing to do with impressing other people.

I also have pottery in my home office worth 1000+ that will never be for anyone’s eyes but my own and bought it because (1) I can afford it and (2) I liked it

Do what makes you happy

It’s all about how it feels to you and how you think you look. If you like the style of the Columbia and it keeps you dry then great! Other folks might have different priorities.

We like Columbia in the PNW because it supports a local brand and it’s a good value proposition. NorthFace is Colorado. I honestly couldn’t tell you the difference between my Patagonia and Columbia jackets at a quality or material level, just price. When I pay for a pricier Columbia jacket it tends to work better. I don’t own anything REI but it’s also local. I like the local brands because they are tested for our weather.

If there is a sought after Director for a practice being built up at PwC. Has there ever been a time that a director can go straight to partner if they have an external offer that is quite compelling ?

Basically that offer would be 1st year partner salary and build off that ? Or PwC likes to stick to it's process and only other option is down the road consider direct Admit partner?

I currently work at a medium sized firm and have about two years experience in personal injury litigation. The billable hours and lack of work life balance are really getting to me and I am looking to switch to something else out of litigation, preferably in house. I am also looking to relocate to a different state. How do I go about properly marketing myself to companies that might not take my relocation and minimal experience seriously?
