Bain & Company My 13 YO is taking Career and Tech. She is dead set on diving for Michigan. What are her chances of getting hired from MBB with a degree from UM? Or would she need her MBA first? Is a Michigan degree good enough to get you into a top MBA program?

MBB firms (at least McK and BCG, not including Bain because I have no insight there and they are much smaller) now have very diverse teams. There is the classic strategy arm, but there are now teams of qualified DS, SWE, MLE, IT consultants, digital transformation specialists, etc. similar to Big 4/ACN but obviously not
1. As large as big 4
2. This isn't the bread and butter of any MBB firm compared to Big 4
As to why a firm might choose MBB here over Big 4, if you want to start from the ground up (i.e., build out different potential strategies, assess alternatives, etc.) you might prefer MBB over Big 4/ACN if you want more of the emphasis to be on the strategy aspect (since MBB has comparative advantage in strategy). MBB is getting into implementation a little bit but it is a very small part of the revenue and if you already know what you want to implement then you would hire Big 4/ACN and not think twice about it since these firms are much stronger than MBB here

I know that MBB does this type of work, can’t speak to how much relative to “strategy”, but I’ve seen them enough at orals to know they’re there.

Besides the fact that the executive stakeholder can brag about hiring MBB folks? Not very much.
Exec Stakeholders are not impressed with consultants lol

Keeping the project(s) aligned with strategy and business goals.
Major transformations can take years. The environment can change. I've seen technology change significantly in the middle of long projects. The entire business can change.
You want to always keep everything aligned with business and not just keep the train going that could potentially need to get redirected or stopped.

A fail safe so when something eventually does go wrong and things stop, you can at least say you hired McKinsey. Versus having hired a boutique or smaller firm and having to answer to your board regarding why didn’t you hire McKinsey
