Fascinating insight PWC, and really relevant to the question
Ask Mr Feeny
P1, shut up.
I think it's a fair assumption that OP is talking about principal role at ATK, not Big 4
A principal is a partner at PwC
That sounds like an expensive project BCG1
Principal = Partner at many B4 firms, differentiator is just not having a CPA. In terms of what they actually do, it's more of the same - relationship building and sales
So - to address the ignorant McKinsey response, BCG definition is different than at PwC. Snide comments are uncalled for - most folks know the partner role so I was defining for the OP
Idk what you're talking about? The principals I work with are some of the hardest working people at the firm. Usually involved in delivering 1-2 projects while trying to sell 2-3 others at the same time. An impossible circus act of keeping your current clients happy and slaving away trying to make all the partners happy by leading their proposals. @ATK as well FYI
It's in-between manager and partner and that's also the best way to describe the role. More involved in commercial activities and account development than manager. Also leads larger teams than manager or has managers below. Not to say there aren't projects that are staffed weird. Had a project with 3 partners, 1 principal, 1 manager and 2 consultants. That didn't make sense.
Is a non-equity partner. Which means we get hit by sales targets but have no say in how the firm is run. Weird vertical staffing happens because the budget is not enough to build a full pyramid but you need a specific expertise from a principal, or additional oversight on manager - principals are rarely staffed full week and typically are involved in multiple projects
Thank you all. You are right: a partner is a principal at PwC.
Thank you SA1 for recognizing - we don't create the circus (most of the time) but have to juggle the balls nevertheless
Same as a senior director at A&M - no equity, but definitely has sales targets for origination. Usually sits on top of large projects, or highly specialized small teams. It's an in between role - essentially farm league for partnership.
