She has such a great point.

Part of being our best for others (the main part) is being our best for ourselves first.

We can’t do that if we break ourselves trying to fix others.

Self-reflection and meta cognition have been instrumental in keeping myself strong while helping others.

Thank you so much for sharing to the bowl! Grow our self-care resources!

Hey you, weary teacher, I see you.
I hear you sigh,
eyes closed,
Head in your hands...

I know the things you think,
the doubts,
fears,
the frustrated pain...

I know you are trying.
I know you work hard.
Sometimes it seems like you’re the only one
in the whole damn school who cares...

I know.
I see.
I hear.
I care.

You are the difference.
You are power.
Through you flows the future.
You author the stories of the world.

I care about the tale you are creating.
Please keep writing. Please.

Self-care tip: Make it a point to discover (then share with your people) your LIFESAVERS.

Lifesaver: preferred item which has unique powers of improving your mood.

“My lifesaver is Milo’s Sweet Tea. When I am in “the trenches”, or the world is on fire, or the ship is sinking with me on it, give me a Milo’s Sweet Tea. I will then be able to survive!”

Common lifesavers:
• snacks (snickers)
• drinks (Sweet Tea)
• songs/bands (Kokomo)
• pop culture references (Ron Swanson quotes)

What are yours?

I work in a public school setting and am allergic to citrus. My district has stated that it is too much trouble to accommodate me. I carry an Epipen and have an anaphylaxis reaction to being exposed to citrus. My district is not accepting my doctor note. They think I am exaggerating and refuse to limit citrus fruits on my campus. An HR meeting concluded that I was required to work through it/use the emergency response team if I have “an issue”. Pls share if you have had a different experience

Subs! Internal subbing is draining the life out of teachers. The sub schedule comes out at the last minute bc of so many teacher absences. It’s the split classes in one period (1/2 Gen Ed and a Special Ed class) Teachers on a cart. Subs pick up students and deliver students. Class changeovers take 10 minutes bc of the domino effect. We’re all waiting for next sub. Teachers are late for their own classes. Students are in chaos with rotating subs. We pay $100 a day. Is the Solution in plain sight?
